Sounds like you need to go back to the basics. Setting up to 90 degrees from servo arm to swash, swash on shaft (centered)Pitch set to 0. size links accordingly . If that doesnt fix it , which if all that is done , it will . Then we can go from there. Patience , go slow, miss something small and you have problems. These tips are true with ANY R/C heli. Take your time , make sure its right, and have fun doing it!! Or atleast try, some peeps just dont like turning wrenchs. Hope it helps

What Bill said and Yes, it is normal and correct to have to reverse the collective. The swash moves up for negative and down for positive.

Hi Bill & Jeff,

I've been buddy boxing a guy who's brand new to RC helicopters. He's got the Stinger 30 w/OS 37 and CY muscle pipe. He's been spending a lot of time on the sim before we started and it's really showing. Right now, I think he's perfectly capable of handling the bird in a hover only mode but is still hanging onto me as a security blanket. I must say, I'm impressed with the rotor head on this machine. I think it's a definitely improvement over the Raptor head. Having said that, I have a question that came to mind while reading your responses concerning the reversed swashplate travel.

Has anyone considered turning the bell/hiller mix arms on the flybar around, flipping the main blade grips, and running the swashplate in the usual direction? I realize there's no "real" need to do that but I've been curious why the hub was setup this way? Seems like Gohbee is trying a little too hard to mimic the Raptor. If I were going to build one, I'd seriously consider doing that primarily because 98% of the birds I've flown have had leading edge pitch arms and I guess I'm just used to it. I don't really have any other logical reason for doing it beyond personal preference. I'd appreciate reading your thoughts on the subject.

Thanks for any reply & Fly Safe,
Steve R.

I never tried flipping or rearranging anything on the Stinger.
I like the way it flies now.
The Stinger is both the most stable and quickest turning ship I have ever flown.
Although if some one could give me a logical reason to start rearranging things I would certainly give it a try.

Jeff,

I hear ya! If I bought one, and I probably will later in the year, I'm not sure I'd mess with it either. As I said, the guy I'm buddy boxing (who's ready for forward flight but just doesn't know it yet! ) has the 30 and I'm very impressed at how tight and secure the controls are on a helicopter in this price range. It's a big improvement over the Raptor.

Chuck,

That's interesting, what you said about having issues getting the collective ranges to work with the blade grips flipped like I suggested. I can't imagine why that would be the case unless the pitch arms themselves were not symetrical mounted on the blade grips. I'll have to look at the one I've been helping to see what it looks like.

Also, Chuck, I notice you're in Beaumont. I live in Texas City, only a couple of hours from you. Do you make the LARKS fun-fly's in Sulfur, LA.? I fully intend to make the May-Day fun-fly (first week end in May) this year. If you've been there before, it's likly we've met. If not, maybe we can get together if you'll be there. It's always nice to put faces to names, or in my case, names to faces! Hope to see you there!

Thanks to the both of you for the replies!

Fly Safe,
Steve R.
