hello all, I am running a razor motor with a 9t pinion. it's always flew nice and smooth.but after flying my t-rex, I need more horsepower augh,augh,augh as the toolman would say! I would like to stay on 3cell. any setups would be appreciated!

Hi,

I used a Razor in my first H2 a couple of years back and wasn't that impressed with it. I now use the Twister EM300/20 also badged up as a Tsunami. I think this motor is excellent on 3s, I have in my X3D and a H2.
You want to use the 25T pinion with this motor.

Simon.

I also run a 27.

I preferred 180T/27T, higher head speed for crisp moves, suffers extra rotor bog compared to the 25T (reduce pitch range to +/-10º). 25T has better head speed retention, ecconomy but has the lower 2400-2600 RPM range handling.

Hmmm intersting that everyone is recommending the 27t or at least a 26t, I thought 25t was the pinion for this motor, have to get some pinions and give them a try.

I'm running between a 26t-27t equivalent Duzi setup and like it alright - I tried between a 28t-29t equivalent and didn't like that - I thought it was too much and even sounded horrible IMO -

Here's a DH style head speed chart -

(Motor Kv 1880 x Voltage 11.1 x Percent Motor Efficiency 85 x Pinion Gear Teeth) / Main Gear Teeth = Head Speed

180t Stock Main Gear
25t = 2464
26t = 2562
27t = 2661

82t Duzi Main Gear
11t = 2379
12t = 2596 << what I'm running
13t = 2812

84t Duzi Main Gear
11t = 2323
12t = 2534
13t = 2745

Setup calculation tool (electric)

Hey, your going to love this then LOL . I've been hacking together a Helicopter Power & Setup Calculator and trying a more complicated though not yet accurately working advanced prototype modeling version. Loads of bugs, fun to play with but it may never work...

I ran your numbers through just to test (using the snap in Honert values button) and they were different... then noticed your Kv is 1880 instead of 1820.

Yeah the standand 2208/20 motor is 1820kv and the Twister is 1880kv - Figured I'd go with the Twister as most of us seem to have that one -

I've been hoping someone would come up with a calculator that has all those parameters - That's awesome - Amps and Watts are particularly interesting to me which can only be accurate in combination with a bunch of other parameters - Way cool.

before your throw away the razor try a 11 tooth or 12 tooth pinion.

Yeah that oughta make a difference -

Razor - 4275kv - 85%
  9t = 2017
10t = 2241
11t = 2465
12t = 2689

v2.0 - 4300kv
  9t = 2029
10t = 2254
11t = 2479
12t = 2705

That's strange, not sure what's going on with this 2208/20 Kv. I think there's a misprint some where, should all be 1820 rpm/v...
Tsunami 1880 rpm/V and EM-300/20 KV=1880
AXI 2208/20 1880 RPM/V motor and this AXI 2208/20 1880 RPM/V motor

All those 4 motors al use the same prop calsulations data results as the manufacturer modelmotors
AXI 2208/20 EVP GOLD LINE 1820 RMP/V motor.

Not a big deal if the magnets got changed at some point but interesting to know.

I've heard the MS-116 ESC was specifically built for use with the Twister motor and that you don't get all the audible tones using the MS-116 with other motors that you do with the Twister - So maybe there's something slightly special about those motors.

running a 11-12t pinion on the razor isn't gonna cook the motor? what kind of batteries are you running? I have a couple of old 3s 800mah packs

1320 3S and 11 tooth for me. It's freaking frozen (finally) outside so overheating isn't an issue. It isn't a big issue in the summer either. The thing is if you don't plan on selling the motor why not give it a try and see if it's acceptable for you?

Anyhow on my setup it goes up a lot quicker then my T-rex so I think the performance is pretty good.
