Steve, two thoughts for you. Sharp does not necessarily mean streamlined. In most cases, a gently rounded shape will yeild a better cd. The more open, rounded shape of the 22E canopy provides more room for the LiPo pack. Try as I might, my HDX300 came out tail heavy. The only solutions to properly balancing the heli were to either add weight to the nose or move the LiPo pack forward. I tried the weight initially, but eliminated the weight and regained the peoper C/G by mounting the LiPo pack further forward. You can see photos of my battery mount in my gallery. Secondly, I like both the fit and appearance of the Walkera 22E canopy. Thanks for confirming the model of the canopy. While I'll probabnly order one for a spare, the durability of this canopy is excellent

Gerry,

You got a good point. I believe the lightweight fiberglass canopy for this is a good choice. Prototype In progress now.

Here it is with the MX400 fiberglass canopy. Thanks to lryans for the idea, its a great fit:

Here's a slick little mounting trick. Drill a 5/64 hole in the servo frame, just behind the rotor mast. Its a real soft grade of aluminum, I've found out. A good bit will go through very smoothly, just be careful to go REALLY STRAIGHT!!

Then superglue in a carbon fiber rod (like the one used on the Blade CPP for the exact same purpose, which I still had in my pile of parts...)

Steve, I'd be first in line for a properly sized fiberglass HDX300 canopy. At least it will be usefull weight as compared with the lexan canopy and added weight. Received the two 22e canopies. I like that they are clear. Gives me the opportunity to use my slot car/radio control car lexan painting techniques.

Yes Gerry, we should have the new canopy very soon and I will make sure it will fit the HDX300SE and since the HDX300SE V3 now has the new battery tray like the trex 450, angled down, we also need to make sure it fits ok on that.

Did you see the picture of new HDX300 V3? I tested it today and it flies beautifully. Can flip, roll and invert no problem.

Steve, I've not seen the V3 yet. I'll have to pop over to the HeliDirect web site and check it out. Thanks!

Steve, the posted link doesn't seem to work, although I did manage to catch a photo while in inverted flight? I'd love to see it "naked", sans canopy. It would be interesting to see the battery mount. Did you check out my gallery for photos of my home-made mount?

Gerry,

Yes it is.

The V3 has another additional battery tray on front which helps a lot with the C.G. balance. However, even with canopy on, this bird still need some more weight on front. So the extra weight of the fiberglass canopy will be a good thing.

Steve, thanks for posting the "naked" photo. You've positioned the LiPo pack somewhat similar to mine. My home-make mount positions the pack further forward and lower than yours. While this helps with the static C/G, your higher position should be better for the dynamic C/G. Thus it should roll better and be more stable in inverted flight.

It looks like once available, the frame set should be a relatively easy retrofit to the existing HDX300? Inquiring minds want to know!
