Ok,

Just got the DX7, so far so good. However, it is limited to 7 channels. So anyone got any ideas on the best way to hook up a 7000T gyro (which uses 3 channels), a governor (TJ pro), and the rest of the servos?

Basically, can the 7000T be run on only 2 channels instead of 3??

Thanks!

Hi

You do need all three connected.

How about building up a 'servo pulse generator' and using it on the 'heading lock' input on the gyro (ie have the pulse generator mounted in the model)? This value does not need much playing with, and somewhere between 100-120% seems to work well.

let me know when you figure it out, i considered a Y harness for the gain/select plugs, i think this would just limit tail lock strength as a gain of 40% would result in a 40% tail lock strength, sound logical?

Unfortunately you 'need' 100-140% lock strength to get anything out of the 7000.

An onboard pulse width generator would be a good solution - it would leave the rest of the set-up alone and once set up never need touching.

Another option would be to use an Aerospire Multigov for the governor - it does not rely on ATV for rpm (you program the rpm into the unit) so it would work on a Y lead with the 7000 HL gain(assuming just one rpm setting is used - normally you could have 3 speeds using -100/0/100 ATV settings off a 3 position switch) and you could still fine tune the heading lock without effecting rpm.

where can most of these components be located?

I think I will end up manually adjusting the gov. As this is the part that will likely require the least amount of adjustments, after all when you want a certain RPM on the head that usually doesn't change if running a single speed setup (like I do).

Thanks everyone. It's a bit of a bummer, but I do like the gyro.

I have found the Venom Racing FailSafe VEN-0620 to act as a stable pulse generator to allow extra 'fixed' channels.

Basically, cut the signal lead going into this unit and power it up from the Rx battery via a Y lead in any channel (ie it should NOT receive a receiver signal input). The pot on then device then allows a pre-set pulse width of 1000-2000 micro seconds to be sent to any device.

This allows a (ground) adjustable gyro gain or gov rpm when you are out of channels.

Perfect I would think for the HH lock on a JR 7000T, or giving a single fixed rpm on the Aerospire Multigov or CSM RevLock.

Its a tiny, reasonably priced unit which works really well.

The Venom Rx Battery meter is worth a look also.
