Well, Steve Kaluf said so. This is real, and obviously it can't be "too good to be true" as others were saying. What puzzles me is, How did the finder of the heli know enough to contact the AMA?

Im not Mr. Lebowski, YOU'RE Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dood! So thats what you'll call me

By the way. I think that his insurance through AMA will only pay for damages if he was flying at an AMA sanctioned field.

This is too wierd to be for real.

It's easy. Just pretend it's the simulator...

I checked out the ebay listing and this guy seems for real... Huh!

I sent him the following message on ebay:

Thank heavens you've found it! It is a RAPTOR 50 Titan with a blue head on the OS50 Hyper engine. It has 600mm carbon blades and plastic tail rotor blades. The tail boom and skids are Titanium colored.
PERFECT.... I was flying here at my home field in Atlanta. I had just taken off with a full tank and it just flew away. I couldn't believe it. That 30% Cool Power really gives some flight time if you run kind of lean.

It's easy. Just pretend it's the simulator...

As the AMA rules stipulate:
Quote
6. I will not fly my model aircraft unless it is identified with my name and address, or AMA number, inside or affixed to the outside of the model aircraft. This does not apply to model aircraft flown indoors.

As taken from: http://www.modelaircraft.org/PDF-files/105.pdf

If you do not have this on your aircraft, you are violating the Safety Rules of the AMA and thus could be invalidating your insurance coverage.

I think that a private investigator is doing this and is smart enought to figure that stuff out. And, its apparent because who ever lost it must know something happend because word travels and these forums are home to all heli freaks. Did I just say heli freaks on runryder.

I traded some email's with "Harvey" (the lost heli finder) ...copies below

>It is amazing that there was very slight damage. I showed to a hobby shop owner and he said it looks like someone just set it on the hedge where it was found/ All intact. Just appeared to have run out of fuel. One pilot told me that it mighthave been in auto rotation when it landed. I like your humor. Thanks. Harvey

My response to him this morning:

Thanks Harvey. But just for reference, autorotation is a technique and not a mode of flight. There's nothing "auto" about it really. It is done by carefully managing the pitch of the spinning blades to keep the head speed up until right before touchdown. It's very difficult to to set a heli down with spinning blades (1650-2100 rpm on the Raptor 50) without doing some significant damage unless it's a controlled landing on the skids. Even if the blades had stopped completely it would have fallen with a great deal of force. You may simply have found a stolen heli that someone tossed in your hedge. Have you contacted your local police department?

Hmm. this is all very strange, I have watched this thread for awhile, and I have to agree.. maybe this heli caused alot of damage and the guys wants someone to payup.

How else would you get someone to call you, if you worded it like, Raptor 50 Tore a 6 inch gash in my new car, I doubt anyone would answer.

I think if this was covered by AMA the owner would have grabbed it. but since this seems like AMA will not cover this type of crash, since it was an unmarked Raptor and flown in an area not suited for flying.

I would just sell the chopper on Ebay and use that money to cover damages.

-= I know there is Money in RC helicopters. I put it there=-

Lost Heli

There could be dozens of reasons for the owner, not to come foward. ( I mean accidents do happen, even to the best and most prepared of us!!!) And then again there could be dozens of reason why the finder wants to return it.. Yet according to the finder, and the hobby shop he took it to, there was very little, or insignificant damged to the Heli itself. Meaning that is there was negligable damage to the heli, the damage to any property would also be minimal.
Again, that's taking the premise that there was property damage done, and no one was hurt!!! Again.."hardly any damage to Heli".
It could of very well landed on a hedge. thought for the brain...in a general context: where do we usually find hedges??? and how close are they generally to a home?? (house)?? that's where it can get hairy. It probably went in thru on window, across the living room, and out the other window, finally landing on a hedge adjacent to the wall...

He has listed it on ebay wit a picture. This heli could not have crashed/landed on it's own. There is NO visible damage, not even broken blades. I really suspect that this is a stolen heli.... I'm not saying that the seller stole it, but it did not crash in his shrubs.

To all RC guys/gals

The Raptor 50 found in El Cajon, California is now listed for sale on Ebay. The owner never located though many pitched in to help find him/her. Thanks to all. Harrvey
