I have a Stinger 90 that I got through some trading. The guy that had it before me had run about 2 gallons of fuel through it and had bad vibration also. While going through the installation of the radio I decided to check everything. The clutch bell bearing and the pinion bearing were very rough. The fan was bad out of balance, which is normal for plastic fans. The main shaft was bent .010". I straightened the shaft and ordered a new one. The new one came in before finishing the radio installation, so I decided to install it instead of the original. I put dial indicator on it in the helicopter and it too was warped .010". It also had one of the tapped 3mm holes stripped out. These shafts are super hard and are evidently not getting straightened properly after heat treating. Don't assume because something is new it is right.

since the 50 hyper makes the most power @ 17000 rpm , with an 8.5 to 1 ratio your head speed should be 2000.

And if you havent , definitely balance the fan.

Ill take the advice , thanks. Im involved in a major honey doo right now. Ive had to sideline the heli, I did order an open metal tail case tonight and some new paddles. Ill balance the fan, and I purchased a dial indicator today also.

My simple rule is if it spins it gets balanced.

What Bill said about head speed.

I do get a big harmonic vibration while spooling up I just get thru it as fast as I can to avoid it. If your head speed is to slow you may be flying near that harmonic vibration point.

I balanced the fan, was it out.... I did the tail rotor and the head also. I ordered the alum tail case but it came with no instructions or idler pully. Are you supposed to reuse these items? I did fly her today to test the vibes. There all but gone. I ran the headspeed up a little, it flew good. Im gonna go over it one more time then it's tic - toc time...
Thanks for help...

Yes you do need to reuse the pulley and tail rotor assy.
Glad to hear that the vibes are gone.

I have one more issue, The tail will not calm down. It occilates under speed. I have borought down the gain on the gyro to as low as i can. its a 401/9254 combo, I have it set to 70%. I am running the DX7 radio. I never had a problem with my Futaba radio running this setup. Is there somthing different between the Spektrum/JR and the Futaba? I have 95 mm MAH tail blades, with the upgraded tail case. Any Ideas?

The stock blades are 105mm.
I run 95mm on a 50 size ship.
In the DX7 does the travel adjustment go from 0 to 100% or does it go from -100% to +100%.
If the gain channel goes +/-100% then 70% is a little high and might cause tail wag.
If you have 0 to 100% then 70% is a bit on the low side and could cause a wandering tail.

Improper fuel mixture adjustment can also cause tail oscillation.

I have -100 - +100 in the ATV, I have it set to +70, I am running the engine rich, its still new, Ill lean it out alittle. A tank of fuel runs thru in 6 minutes. Will the alum, tail pully help? Alittle more speed can't hurt....

The 8 tooth tail pulley on the 90 is a huge increase in tail rpm.
I do not remember the actual numbers off hand but it is a 13% increase in rpm. The Stinger already has a higher rpm tail than a lot of 90's out there.
I have not tried it yet but if you do definitely get the new HD grips with 3 bearings first.
