Scale Model RC Helicopters > What mechanics?

After first thinking about a Dauphin 2 modelheli, I decided to begin with a easier heli. (This will be my first one).
I like the Robbe Bell UH-1D but can't find the difference between te recommened mechanics by Robbe.
You can choose between the Futura SE 1,8m and the Futura Contest 1,8m. Both mechanics are available in left and right rotation design, but with different gearratio's. (1:9,73 vs 1:10 for the Futura mechanics. About the Contest mechanics I can't found any information. Only the 1,5m design). What are the differences between those two?
I prefer a gas-engine over a nitro-engine.

The contest series is only the mechanics, for a scale fuse. There is no tailboom or landing gear or canopy.

You can get gasser conversion sets to allow the G23 motor to be used which includes a new motor mount and pulleys, clutch and drive belt.

Have you checked on Robbe's web site in Austria?

I still can not make it out.

So I should take the SE mechnics? (In the catalog they also write it is not possible to use the Contest with a gas engine)

Is the gasser conversion set (s2931, for ZG22) allowed for the G23 motor? Or should I also buy the ZG23 motor mount (1-s1061).

Thanks for the help,

Eelco

Today I got a email from Robbe where they say the SE and Contest mechanics are no longer available. They will present a new mechanics at the Toy Fair.
I am very curious about it.

Gas Conv

I have a Futura SE that I was going to convert to gas. The gas conversion was made for the previous model, the Futura Gold. So it is not a drop in fit, you have to mod the engine mount to get the belt tension right and you need the wide yoke so the engine can pass through the bottom rail. It is doable, but mine is stalled, as I want to build a more robust engine mount connection to the frame.

I'm puttin a glow powered Millenium in a Robbe H500 E fuse which is working out really nicely. The new model from Robbe (not in the US yet) seems to be a modified Nova set, and they are offering a gas conversion for that. This might be your best bet if you really want gas. The fuse kits (at least the H500) were designed for the older Gold mechanics so some tweaking is in order, but I have to say that the Robbe kits seem to be some of the best quality available.

Your 500

Hey Stet,

You gotta post us some pics of your 500! Are you going to use the 5 blade scale head, man those are awesome!

I'm building a 60 size H500E for my Raptor. The head will be a stock flybar type, wish I could put one on it, it would look fantastic.

H500

Hey Raymond. Your project really bummed me out because you are planning to do the Breitling Yellow/Blue with Red lightning bolts paint job !! I had my eyes on that paint setup for a while, but it's my fault that I didn't get my project moving two years ago when I got the components. And the world isn't big enough for two of those. So I might do the red/yellow/blue splash job also found on www.helispot.com (the long notar). Or I may just follow your lead after all !! I probably will, but will make some changes just to be unique.

About the head, at first I had the 4 bladed Robbe head, but decided I wanted the heli to be a real flyer that I could enjoy. I understand the multi blade heads are real squirrely, so I'm gonna stick with the all-metal two bladed head currently on my millie hangar queen. Plus you have to get more power out of the tail if you are running 4 or 5 blades, so that leads to 4 bladed tail, speedup gears etc. I've got some TG 700 semi symmetricals that are going to be superb in the auto department. It's gonna be a regular flyer. I think I will be painting the blades to match/coordinate.

I understand the Vario double bolted 5 blade head is really good, but available in LH rotation only. Reply with your email addy and I'll send you some pics of my project. I'm using the zimmerman quiet muffler with a header which basically goes straight back to the normal exhaust location. I think you will enjoy flying yours with the 2 bladed head much more. I have some pics from a friend who did use the 5 blade vario head with SE LH mechanics and it does look nice.

I still haven't quite figured out how to upload pics, (are they loaded on Saturdays only?)

catch me at SoBayHeli@aol.com
