This is great! I just read through most of this thread and I'm very intrigued. I'm sure this conversion will work on a Spectra but please correct me if I am wrong. Otherwise, I am in. I like to do mild 3D, big sky aerobatics and fly at high speeds. I don't do tic-tocs, collective pumps or anything that spikes the current draw for extended periods of time. I also read in this thread where it may actually be better to go with a 10S rather than 11S 0r 12S. My goal is to be able to fly close to 10 minutes with a headspeed around 1800 at the highest. Please help steer me into the right set up with regards to ESC, motor and batteries. Look out for the Spectra-E.

yep. the spectra uses the same "plate" as the tempest and stratus.
just change out the clutch plate for the motor mount, and the gearing. i used a adaptor from Min Air and a 10 or 11 tooth pinion.
the 32-3 on 10s at 10:1 ratio worked fine it wasn't as extreme as 12s, also ran a 24-5 actro on 11s at 8.18:1 that worked fine also.

cgbole, OK, great! Count me in! How do I pay to get this kit from you? What is the best motor and ESC for the combo I want to fly on 10s with a head speed between 1650 and 1800. Also, what pinion do you recommend the 10 or 11 and what what batteries? Once again I'd like to fly fast, do big sky aerobatics and some soft 3D. I have been flying 450 size electrics for two years so I have some understanding of how it all works but if I ask for further explanation, please bear with me. Thanks for the input and for pointing me in the right direction.

I'd do a actro 32-3 on 10s at 10:1 ratio. 100T main and 10T pinion
get a adaptor from Min Air, 100T main gear and a stock 10T pinion.
i'm not sure on the availbility of actro motors. i heard Minair has them in stock? not sure. i'd recommend a power jazz for a controller.
they are pricey but i could have bought one with what i spent on 2 Hv85s. or mabey a Hv110. TP 3850 packs will give you a very lite heli but it might be kinda stressfull on them. i used 5000 TP extremes. and Fp 3700's. it might have been a bit much on the 3700s.
32-3 (555 Kv) on 10s (37V nominal) will give you 20,500 or so RPM. divide by ratio (10:1) should get a 100% headspeed of 2050. if ya dial the speed controller (in gov mode) shouldn't be hard to get between 1600
1900.
here is a 32-3 on 10s
32-3 10s

OK, Actro 32-3 and a PJ it is! 10S is the pack and I'll probably go with the Evo FPs. I also have a Henseleit 3D NT I have been wanting to convert to electric for a while. I have two different drive pulleys giving the possibility of going 7.7:1 or 8.3:1. Do you think the Actro 24-5 would be a good mate for that machine on 10S to run headspeeds from 1300-1800? Thanks again for the info but I still need to order the conversion kit from you. How do you want the money?

RE:
Hi cgbole

Hey, I talked with Tim for a long time today and we ended up at a different solution of the Actro 32-4 run with an 11 tooth pinion against a 93 tooth main (stock with my Spectra). This puts the gear ratio at 8.45:1 which is a stock 90 nitro ratio. He has the plate I would need to adapt it to the Actro so it will be a clean and easy install and I won't even have to change the main gear. This is all based on the head speed and endurance I want and this set up ends up consuming less of the battery capacity. Your set up is an inspiration and very awesome to watch. Thanks for the info, help and your time. I'll be sure to post some pictures of my finished product to the thread. Thanks again.
