Guys,

If you haven't already, go check out the HDX300 postings on RCG. We have started using hardened Ejector Rods for the shafts and they work great. There's a link there by aristo1963 on where to get them.

Bill,

I order some kind of harden shaft from HeliDirect. Should have waited, crashed TrexSE 2 hours later doing a high speed loop (forgot to hit the idle-up).

I have not heard of RCG, could use some move info on this site.

Thanks,
Robby

I ordered these:

PE7-04L125

I took a guess. Once I get them, I'll post a reply on how they work

tonyval, I think thats the wrong one (you ordered 4mm). You can cut a couple from these, but you need the correct diameter:

2mm tailshaft:
PE7-02L200

3mm Mainshaft:
PE7-03L200

You are right

I ordered the right ones, but posted the wrong part number

I had a stock one go this morning for no apparent reason

It was pretty exciting (not). No real damage since I was only hovering in my garage about 2 ft off the ground

Mostly an inconveniece. I do have a spare, but the anti rotationbracket that holds the swashplate is a pretzel (thanks god the swash is OK)

I have made replacements in the past from 1/8 thick 3/4" angle aluminum. I'll just do the same

Anybody know a good replacement bracket? It seems HD and XM do not sell them individually, anly as part of a 30 dollar kit. No biggie to make them, just time consuming

Tonyval,

Good...glad you got the right ones coming. I see you have the V2 head most people with it are bending the original shaft right away - it's just not hardened properly and the mass is located quite high on that head with the blades on top. (I have the V1 head). Aristo1963 (John) is in process of testing the ejector rod on the V2 head over on RCG. You may want to follow that thread (the one I posted earlier).

hi bill im a member here to lol.the shafts work great on the v2 head, but ill give some heads up.ejector rods are very tightly spec'd in size most time to fit the bearings and you have to polish them,i use a blue dremel grinding/polishing wheel(rubbery feel) then polish them with dremel polishing compound and a felt wheel.after a few passes each they will fit and slide like butter.also to drill holes in them you must use carbide bits rods are rockwell c75.i buy the resharpened bits online from drill bit city.1.57mm for main shaft bolt and 1mm for others.to drill you must grind a flat thru the hardened outside and using a dremel at high speed and a vise just start your hole and use gentle tapping motions to work thru.it takes me about a minute to drill thru one by hand.
good luck

aristo

you said a 1.57mm drill bit would work.

http://drillcity.stores.yahoo.net/1506res.html

all i could find was 1.5mm

is this the correct drill bit for the main rotor hole.

PE7-03L200

and is that the correct model number for the main rotor shaft

thanks, Joe

I cant wait to get a better main shaft

New Shafts

Hey Guys
Got the shafts today, pretty fast since I just ordered them yesterday!

They do fit VERY tight in the main bearings, and I can see the need to polish them down.

I'll have to get the correct bit to drill the head bolt. Do you think a local store would have them? I know the hardware would not, but what about a LHS?

Also, I kind of like the shouldered bottom, and plan on leaving it at the bottom, unless you see an issue with that.

Thanks again for the help everyone

also the resharpened 1mm bits these are 10 packs so you have some room for error while getting used to them.

tony these are very specailised bits i doubt you will find them locally.

New Shafts

Thanks
I'll order them online.

I did have to take the top end of the shaft down a bit more, to get the swashplate and block to move freely. What I ended up doing was chucking it in my drill press, and then running som super fine polishing paper on it. Came out very nice.

I guess I'll go back to a stock main shaft (and hope it lasts for a few days) until the drill bits arrive.

Thanks again

Has anyone test them in a crash yet? How do they hold up, do they bend just has easy as the HD shafts?

aristo, do you think it would be possible to drill the hole in the ejector rod without a drill press.

also what rpm should the bit be spun?

Thanks,
Joe

Ejector pins

Hello Everyone
I received the drill bits last night, and I am glad I bought the 10 pack!

It was very difficult to drill a straight/centered hole, and took a few tries. Next time I will definitly drill the hole forst, and cut the shaft to length AFTER I am satisfied with that. This way if I screw up, I will have some wiggle roon to move down and drill a new hole.

Anyway, I finally finished up around 10PM last night, and will probably spin up tonight if I get the chance. I did do a test spin just to check the balance and check for vibrations, seems pretty good so far.
