I'm using four S75 servoes. Yes, they might not be the best servoes. But I don't fly hard aero or 3D, so they work just fine for me.

I would get futaba s 3114 micro servos or the hitec hs 55 for cyclic and a hs50 for the tail.

Guys,

I am putting together a HDX300. One question, my tail rotor links are currently set up on the trailing edge side of the blades. My T-Rex's are set up on the leading edge. I searched thru pics and I couldn't find an up-close pic of the tail rotor. Which way did you guys set them up?

Thanks, Bill

There are some great build and set-up videos on www.heliderect.com, click on HDX300 heli, scroll down click on (tail set-up video).

Thanks for the pointer, but the Heli videos don't have the specific detail I am asking for. I have all the finless videos and have reviewed them all.

Thanks, it does. Looks from the pic that the ball link in view attaches to the "bottom" blade grip in the pic at the TE side.

Thanks!

My HDX Photos

Hi Gerry
Finally got some pix in my gallery of the HDX300

It has been fun, and challenging. Most of the mistakes I made were a result of not knowing what I was doing, but I learned alot.

Thanks again for all of the information and support

I now have several hours of flight time on a revised main shaft. The shaft is 314 alloy Stainless Steel tube that is cored with a solid carbon fiber matrix. This is VERY stiff. Too stiff, maybe. I'm going to experiment with slightly softer spindle damping and see if that takes care of the "shakes". I think the system is now too stiff or flex-free.

The main shafts draws upon technology that I use to make slot car axles. It will be interesting to see how it transitions to heli applications.

Hay Gerry or Tonyval,

I'm building a HDX300, all done but the linkages on the head. The problem I have is that in Finless vedios are showing a head with the flybar on the top. My kit also did not come with enough links. Don't think I'll get this figured out without help.

Thanks,
Robby

I found a site that has a bunch of build vids on the HDX300 and was going to post up a link to it. They are at Helifre*k.com but when I posted the link it said the work "helifre*k" (with an "a" substiuted for *) was an illegal word and won't let me post the link.

they are located in the blade cp forum and have a sticky at the top. Why is that blocked. Is that a bad site or something? Thats the first time I found that site so I'f I'm doing something wrong by posting this info here about the vids please feel free to remove this post if you are a moderator.

they do have quite a few HDX300 build vids there though and I thought it may help others that are trying to get their HDX300's in the air.

I'm starting to think about one myself.

Should be "a" not "e" instead of *. Something wrong? Long story, a bit of unnecessary rivalry going on between forum site super ego's is all.

Those are good videos and I useded them and they are all good up till the head setup. The one he builds in the video is not the one that came in my kit. The I still trying to figure out the links. Picked up some Blade CP servo to swash links at the LHS, so I be back at it today.

I have only heard to two people so far that have got the HDX300 in the air and liked them. I'll post back when I get this one figured out, this weekend with any luck.

I got the head figured out, took most of the day Saturday to get it worked out and all the electronics in and wires routed. I like that stuff so had a nice day.

The next problem came when I spun her up and the tail was way too touchy and had some vibration. I inspected the tail and found that the shaft would free move in and out aprox 1/16 of an inch. So I took the shaft and the pulley gear out and Gorilla glued them into one piece. Well see tomorrow if that helped.

I also removed the booms supports, stabilizer and trimmed down the fin to get the center of gravity to come out.

I’ll keep you posted on my progress and thanks for the help.

Link Lengths

Ok, say that three times fast!

Seriously, I promised to post the link lengths that I use on my HDX300. All dimensions are center-to-center.

Cyclic Servoes, center mounting hole to link, 0.516"

Cyclic Servoe, link to swashplate, 1.062" This positions the swashplate mid-point on the main shaft while in idle-up and mid-stick.

Feathering Block mixing arm to flybar control cage, 0.942"

Swashplate to upper mixing arm, 1.522"

Upper mixing arm to main blade grip, 0.688"

I hope this helps those of you trying to sort out the setup of the HDX300 equiped with the V2 head.

Gerry,

Thanks for the measurements, they came in very handy. I got up early today and put the tail back together so as to give it a test hover before I started my day.

Just as it started to lift off a heavy vibration made the heli shake like I've never seen, canopy flew off and was lucky that the heli didn't upset on the spin down. I then held it in my hand and spun it back up and can see that the main shaft is not true. I did spin it up (holding on to it) yesterday without the tail and all was fine. So the shaft bent this morning on this hover attempt.

I've read that the main shaft is problematic. I'm going to call HeliDirect today and see what they have to say.

What the heck is going on?

Ive noticed them getting more sloppy with there main shafts I ordered three of them one time and everyone of them had a slight bend in them which caused vibrations. it doesnt take much of a bend to cause problems.

Bad Vibrations

Hi Tonic
I have had some of the same issues early on. I later determined (by looking at the pictures on HeliDirect) that the lower head assemble needed to be at a perfect 90 degree angle to the upper assembly. Once I fixed that, it worked well.

Basically, by loosening the two smaller set screws that attache the lower assembly, and the checking to make sure the shorter linkage (the lower one) was parallel to the main shaft.

Most of my "shaft" issues since have been my own doing!

Good luck
