Grinding Sound.

When setting up the XRB you should follow the manual in order step by step. It is set up sort of like a flow chart.

However your statement below mirrors the results of one of my early very spectacullar encounters with the Nordic Trak in our family room! In my case the grinding sound was produced by the fact that the last impact ripped a tooth out of the lower pinion ( the little drive gear) gear. With the pinion gear missing a tooth the upper rotor could not match the speed of the lower rotor and no amount of rudder trim could over come the miss match. So check your gears.

BTW the giro on my XRB changes characteristics as it warms up. A trim setup for a cold XRB doesn't work well once it warms up. So I trim up for a warm condition and either use a little left rudder on takeoff until it warms up or let it "idle on the pad" for a couple of minutes to come up to operating temperature.

>There also seems to be a nasty grinding sound >as you bring the rotor speed to a stop!!

If you are prepared to wait I would say any Hirobo supplier can order parts in. My Lama has just decided to have some sort of gyro problem. The light stays hard red with sudden flickers of green resulting in uncontrollable yaw occasioned by jerks as the drive gets a sudden spike.

Sitting it down statically - the light stays red regardless of how I mess with the rudder trim which can't be good. Time to get the mini tools out and do some disassembly I suppose.

Pity that I can't even blame a decent crash - I haven't even damaged a blade in ages.

lama cyclic control

hi Deano440,

i think urproblem is pretty much what my lama is having now, after several min, the lama will lost its cyclic control totally, i can't even move the cyclic, but after a while, it works fine, but then soon it'll stop working, so u see, if u r flying and suddenly ur cyclic doesn't work, thisis what happened to ur lama, u don't even know how it crashed. if u pay attention to the green and red light, u will notice it's off, but if u push the thottle, the light will go randonly green or red, i think there's something wrong with the IC chip inside, unfortunately there's no replacement.

Well I pulled my gyrating xrb apart and found 3 trim pots on one of the 2 circuit boards - which also has what looks to be the gyro sensor mounted on it. I had to turn the top pot almost fully anticlockwise to get the trim light to balance between red & green (was hard red). I took the opportunity to cut some small holes to let me change the pots once assembled just in case.

Anyway, got it airborne but unfortunately the gyro basically isn't gyro'ing anymore. Tuning the pots seems to make little difference, the tail is just way unstable so something has frizzled in the electronics.

I notice that the boards aren't sold as parts so time to send the unit in for repair - or maybe hang out for the RC version ??

FWIW,

I just rebuilt my XRB, I replaced both electrical motors and some broken plastic parts. After I did some fine tuning on the controler pots and it flies smooth as silk.

Took some work but I am happy with the results.

No Lift on XRB after replacing upper rotor head

Hello all,
I am very new to Helicopters, and my friend recommended the XRB as a starter. For the 10 Minutes I flew it it was incredible. Then several blades later I broke the upper rotor head. I replaced this, and I now back, but there appears to be no lift even at full throttle. Any ideas??? As I said I am new to helicopters, and could be easily overlooking the obvious, but any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

They are both really good, I have flown the XRB and I have Realflight G2. I think that the XRB is a better trainer to teach hovering, side in hover, Head in hover, and basic forward flight.

G2 is good for practicing more advanced manuevers. If money was no issue, I would get both. The XRB is too pricey IMO, if it was $175 it would be in every Heli pilots closet!

But RFG2 is $200, for a piece of software.

The good thing is you can probably buy both cheap on eBay, and sell them for close to what you paid when you are done.

Expert Set up?

What feeling or changes have when you set up the heli to the expert ? The manual mention it is more sensitive. I want to change but with some background of your experience

How easy is toi change the weights in the flybar?

I'm not Jeff, but I can tell you that I received my Lama SR direct from MRC two days ago. Had it flying within an hour of unpacking. How does it fly? In a word sweet! Its very smooth (It comes with balanced blades and a fixture so that you can balance replacement blades.) and seems to have more precise control than the wired version. The gyro seems to work better as well. Had it hovering hands off with just little trimming. It might be more expensive than the cheap knock off, but this is quality work, and shows that in this case you do get what you pay for!

I am new to heli's and purchased a Lama. It flew great the first day, now it keeps spinning around and won't even come off the ground. Any suggestions?
