Here's a link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTDUFd3uiJs

The video was filmed and produced by my good friend Jess Gomez. This was my first attempt at using a video editor, I had to reduce the file size. I'll try to load a better quality video soon.

I was there too and I must say it takes and incredible pilot to fly that model like that. He comment to me that in a few cases he was full stick just to get it in the right position.

Good job on the flying, That is one sweet heli .... I would love to build one in the near future for my collection... I have a chinook on the sim and it is really pretty squirrelly to hover or fly around with but I'm willing to learn..

Tom..... No "D" flying....

cool, nice flying,, but I think it would benefit with a 60B to get that nice smooth mid range..

Nice flight,

Suggest the owner/pilot to add a degree of pitch to the back rotor or take one degree away from the front to help with the tail sagging in flight.

Also letting the CG be forward of the manual suggestion helps keep that back dropping to a minimum.

Mine flys with a 1 degree difference between the front and back. Also like the XRB if you get a yaw drift in a certain direction, to balance the yaw amount or center, adjust pitch on the rotor head in question.

For example, if you have too much left drift, reduce the front pitch or increase the rear pitch depending on how it hovers, back too high or too low. The opposite holds for too much right drift, decrease rear pitch or increase front pitch.

Increase front pitch you get left yaw, increase rear pitch you get right yaw.

Then also reducing some gains on the gyro helps as well. I needed to reduce all three gains on mine as I was fighting the gyro in flight. It wanted to fly without my input.

Also governor helps a lot.

Thanks for the comments guys and thanks Jeff for your suggestions. The Chinook does fly great in fast forward flight . It's very fast and smooth with good cyclic/collective response and plenty of power from the OS 50. There is no balooning or tucking under like other flybarless helicopters that I've flown.

The trouble starts when I try to flare to a hover. The tail drops severely and needs full collective and forward cylic to recover. I was told that this was caused by the leading rotor blanking out the trailing rotor. I've tried to flair sideways, it works well but it looks awkward skidding sideways like that. The helicopter yaws to the left which is unaffected by the rudder trim. That's why I did the funnels to the left. I was actually just trying to relax my thumb after holding right yaw correction for so long. Hopefully Jeff's suggestions will help minimize these negative flight characteristics. It sounds like adding some pitch to the trailing rotor should help both control problems. I'll also move the battery as far forward as possible.

Jeff,

I've been searching for some blade covering and haven't found a source yet. Do you know anyone that has it in stock?

Thanks,

Roy

50mm covering should be fine. Right now we only have in white. Part # 2400017. 36MM is too small with the new style blades.

hard to say who has it in stock, probably Ricks is the best bet.

My battery is in back just under the main shaft. It is a 1500 mAh Futaba pack. I did add 15oz to the back as well to balance where the manual said, but ended up removing it and flying with out it letting the CG drift forward. So far so good.
