Clubs and Associations > Helis banned @ H.V.Flyers!!!

It just came to my attnetion that Hackensack Valley Flyers has forever banned helicopters at their feild in Moonachie, NJ! What a shame. They have been trying to do this for the past five years or so. Also one of the reasons I left that club and joined Wayne Modelers in Wayne NJ. www.waynemodelers.org

Thoughts....

They have such a hard time getting along with heli pilots there and I just dont understand why. Or maybe I do.... To begin with the field is big....but they restrict the heli guys to a little corner where you can only hover. Then the plane guys say they are hovering too high....too far out....blah blah blah.

Some guys were granfathered in witht he length of time in the club....that caused hard feelings.

One of the dumbest things that goes on there is this: The guys who voted out the helis.....they all fly 3D planes and hover all over the field! So....they can hover their planes....do tail touches.....disrupt the flying pattern for the plane hovering, but the heli guys are jammed into a small corner and restricted to how far out and far up you can hover your heli? What the fck is wrong with that group over there????? Their LOSS!!!!

So....if anyone in the Northern NJ area wants to fly a heli and are looking a great group to fly with....look up Wayne Modelers in Wayne NJ. www.waynemodelers.org We are looking for new members! We won't ban your heli! Give me a break!!!!! LOL

Don't you think the 3D fling on a plane is more dangerouse than a heli just hovering? I mean....some of those planes they fly there are huge. A 20 pound plane hitting the pits could kill some people. It just shows how narrow minds some guys are.

I'm not sure they can do that and keep their AMA sanctioned flying site. You might want to contact the AMA about the situation.

I dont belong to the "Clique" club anymore.....I would hope that someone would contact the AMA....but some how some way...they will weasel out of a complaint and everything will be fine. I feel so bad for all of those guys who have dumped BIG money into their set ups and now....they cant use it!

AMA

The AMA won't get involved unless there is discrimination against a certain race or religion etc. I've learned that through my dealings on this subject with the vice pres. of our district. The club can just have a vote on it as long as they go by the by-laws of the club, and even those can be changed.

When the Pres. wants it....it is voted on....you are done! Sucks...but that is the way it goes. Just need to find a better field...that's all.

That is one reason why I formed a heli club. The club I was in had about 150 members who was airplane guys and about 5 or so heli guys and yes they stuck us in the corner just to hover. If I am a member and I pay my dues just like an airplane guy then I want to be on the flight line just like him. What gives him the right to think is can be there but i can't. WWW.SJHFLYERS.COM

I think we are lucky at our club. The average age of the membership is going up, but they realised they need to breathe some new life into the club. After these little indoor electrics took off, and some club members purchased a few. They asked a coule of us to setup an official heli night at the field. It will be for AMA members, but anyone can come out and get their heli setup, tested out, and pointed in the right direction. We will have stations setup for the novice flyer, and those into FFF. We have one of the best local training programs for folks wanting to learn to fly planks, and alot of that experience will help make the heli night work. Even thoseclub members who don't fly heli's (yet) want to come out and help.

My club also is very tolerant of all aircraft and personalities!!! Our club (Wayne Modelers) has a lot of energetic, talented and great people in it. The club in question....Hackensack Valley Flyers, to me was very clique like. You had to be in good with certain individuals to be able to fly a helicopter. I was a member since 2000 and they never let me fly my heli there....but others could. That really upset me. I would voice my opinion....retribution would always follow. But that was just my experience and I can not speak for the rest of the club members.

Imagine this....selling all of your airplanes....deciding helicopters are your pasion. Everything is great....but then you find out that the helis are banned forever!

Unbelievable!!!!

This has been an on going issue at this particular field, however, no one ever mentioned having a problem with the helicopters flying there until one particular incident where two members were butting heads, one's a heli flier and the other is an airplane flier. From my observation it was a case where neither of them wanted to yield the runway to the other. The end result was that the planker crashed his war bird on his second go round. I have to say for the record, the plane flier doesn't have a stellar record for good landings.
Simply, it's men being babies on both sides.
We're working on getting a new site, and if not for space restrictions I myself would love to fly airplanes there as well, as I believe the two technology's can coexist. I think we can work on that.

Wow...things have not changed much sice I was there it seems. I miss the guys....but not the politics. I understand that The president of HVF is actually doing a great job with the local commnities, the AMA and the FAA because they are so close to the airport. He is honestly a great guy and a hard working individual. I wish them luck....just too bad that they all cant get along!

plankers vs. helis

have the same problem here it seems. the minute a heli does something wrong in the eyes of the plankers its all over. they come jumping on your a$$ and say crap that is unneccesary. but oh my God if a planker does the exact same thing no one says a word as if its ok for planes to hover in front of the flight line but helis cant. i always hear the same thing those heli guys are so dangerous, but the funny thing is i've seen more planes go down then helis. plankers fuel up, start er up and boom down the runway they go. me and my heli buddies are always range checking, making sure all controls are operating correctly, preflight check every nut and bolt etc.... and they call us dangerous.
helis here also have a little corner, and that sucks. i fly both helis and planes and love it, helis more but hey i just love to fly anything i can get my hands on.

i believe this heli/planker war is never gonna end and thats the sad part. us heli guys here are so curtious to our fellow flyers but we dont get the same from our plane pilots.

anyway short story long *hahaha* fly safe fly fast fly fun fly straight for that plane sitting on the runway *hehehe* just kidding you dont wanna hit that plane and mess up your beautiful heli

I have noticed this a few places also...
Almost seems like the airplane guys might be jealous/envious of heli pilots because they "can't do it" or whatever.
Thoughts?

I help the plankers into rotors!

I had the same problem in Leon, Mexico club. The heli guys were looked down as 'snipers' to try to describe the feeling. Anyway, I got into helis, and now I have 4 more guys into this hobby. 3 more are about to buy helicopters.

Now we are at the top of the food chain. As soon as you hear any Hyper 50 roar to life.....the strip is like the flight deck of an aircraft carrier with more aircraft lined up to land than on the George Washington...hehehehehehe viva rotors....!!!

So many years wasted on plankers...!!!!

I must say, at Wayne Modelers of Wayne NJ.....we share time in the air with plankers and helis with no problems. We aquired some heli pilots from Hackensack Valley Flyers and they are great guys....guys who were looking for a club who whould not pull the rug out from under their feet!

The irony of this situation is that the Hackensack club has many who fly 3D plankers and hover around...tail touch and most 3D manuvers. So.....if you hover in one place with a planker, why cant you hover in an aircraft that was actually designed for hovering (helicopter)?????

Double standards Suck!

All these clubs that seem to dislike us heli pilots may not want us there sharing the same airspcae as them, but when it comes time for dues to get paid, they aren't shy about telling you "don't forget your club mambership is due." They want us to pay for membership in a club they don't want us in to begin with. But as always the money is still welcomed.

I fly both plankers and helis and enjoy them both. So much dislike towards us heli pilots. So now us heli guys rarely go to the club field.
