I'm all for the automatic cleaning of our PM's by putting them in the trash. but sofar i have found it more frustrating then anything. many times i go to send another reply to someone, and i have to fish through the trash to find that PM. or if i want to read previous PM's

i find myself constantly going to the trash to retrieve older messages so i can send another reply for example.

is there a way where we could be given an option. where a PM is replied to, but it remains in the recieved folder as is for a certain period of time before automatticaly going to the trash? this will save (me atleast) the frustration of going to the trash all the time, but will still automatically clean out old PM's.

Thanks.

Another way to look at this is the following. The sent folder is the key focal point of PM work done. Go there and click the number next to the member name to review or reuse older PMs associated with that member. In this scenario going to the trash folder is unnecessary.

I do not want the system to arbitrarily move anything to trash based on time frames or space used. That would really frustrate all involved.

I personally use the PM system extensively. I am very pleased with the productivity introduced with the new setup. My inbox is empty, my sent folder is not overflowing with duplicate back and forth PM conversations, and on the rare occasion I need to re-reply to the same PM again, the explanation above takes care of business.

I have another question about PM's

When a PM is sent, and hasn't been read yet. and you check under the 'Unread' section. and you select to cancel the message. does that actually cancel the message so the member will not get the chance to see/open it? or does that just cancel the tracking?

i had sent a few pm's in the past, and realized i made mistakes in what i had said (not being careful enough when i read the message). so i hit the cancel button. but even to this day i dont know what it actually does.

Cancel gives the other member a cancel notice. The other member cannot view the cancelled PM. Test this by sending yourself a PM and then cancelling it.
