Update from Ikaros,

I stopped by the field Saturday - but I think I just missed most of you guys on RR - it took me 45 minutes to actually figure out how to get to the field from Bay 50th st... I drove around the block for a good 30 mins (this was after I ended up crossing the Verazzano Bridge after realizing too late that I missed the Belt Pkw turnoff from the BQE) - btw, have I mentioned I'm not from Brooklyn?

I think I finally figured out how to walk up to the field around 12:30. The original problem was there was a huge congregation of baseball players the first time I drove up, and couldn't actually see the heli field - At least I know where it is now...

Anyway, I got to meet Ed (I believe that was his name) and his family and some other guy I think his name was Charlie? - he was kinda crazy (Charlie, not Ed). I hung out at the field for about an hour and observed several Raptor flights. I didn't feel it appropriate to fly Saturday, as Ed was unfamiliar with me and my posts on RR.

I was suppose to meet Dino on Sunday morning, but he ended up getting sick and couldn't make it - which was ok anyways, because when I got there at 10am it was super windy and deserted.

I think I have mentioned previously, that I am a little bit limited because I am using zipcar for a car - and just like with heli's, it takes practice to learn how to use the service in NY - because the cars are hard to come-by on the weekends. Actually, what I have learned is that you can have up to 5 reservations and as long as you cancel within 6 hours, you get no penalty. So anyway, I have cars reserved for the next 4 weekend mornings. And have one reserved for the entire day for the Spring fun-fly event.

Don't worry... I haven't lost interest in this stuff - to the contrary, I have already started researching nitro birds... That sound is just so awesome...

My 450 has had several park flights (well, hovers). And I must say is amazingly stable, though I still have the flybar weights all the way out. My 500 has still not maidened... Hopefully the weather will cooperate soon!

-j

p.s. Yes I have been glued to the simulator, so that I don't make a fool of myself at the field... How did you guys do this before there were simulators. Much respect!

Yes that was me (um, errr, kinda flying?)... thanks for hosting this open house. It was quite overwhelming - when you are new there is so much constantly going through your brain... Also, Much thanks to Jan and his patience, and for not making fun of me for having my tail belt flipped the wrong way I also figured out when I got home that the piro rate on the JR770 is controlled using the D/R / Expo setting. I had it set at the recommended settings, but this might be something else to look at.

I posted some pictures in the event forum as well:

Hello SRW

I'm moving to NY from Atlanta this weekend. I'd like to stop by the field one day next week for a visit and meet a few club members if possible. Is there generally someone at the field after 5 on weekdays?

And is it ok to fly as a guest for a day or two?

Don
