If so, how did it handle the crash, in particular the CF Frames.

I crashed mine pretty hard the other day.

It took out the following parts:
flybar
paddles
main mast
mast extension
head button
spindle
blade grip bearings
one body mount
blades

I hit it very hard on the side. The frames survivied no problem.

I ended up taking the whole thing back apart after the crash. The above was all that was needed. I was very surprised.

I dumb thumbed it after loosing orientation.

Why dont you find out for yourself? Plans for most helicopters are available online. Just search for the parts on any online shop.

I made a comparison for some equivalent parts that I thought would get destroyed in a hard crash and here is the resume:

Crashcost:

Hirobo Freya (Standard) $324
JR Vigor CS $433
TT Raptor 60 $218
Robbe Millennium II $391
MA Fury Expert (alu tailboom) $347

(prices from ronlund)

And less expensive when looking "east", but I still believes that the Freya is least $ to repair.

thats true but also, you should show the
list of parts you are considering.

Also, I think the Fury comes w/ a
carbon boom so is it fairer to replace it
w/ alum like the others or replace it to be 'stock'

It is hard for me to believe that a torque tube raptor would be cheaper to repair than a freya on a boom strike.

Unless you really mangle the tail the belt normally survives on the freya.

Okay, you can subtract the freya belt (~$23) from the above and the Raptor is still the cheapest.

z11..., The crashcost for the Fury Expert above is with aluminium tailboom.

What about the bearings and the drive shaft?

I don't have a Rap 60 so someone that has had one and had to rebuild the tail chime in here. What generally has to be replaced when the mains kink the boom and it being bent (not straight) is noticable?

Damaen,

Augusto did a very thorough comparison last year. The Freya was cheapest, followed by rap 60 then fury, and you can guess that the vigor was spendy...

Good to hear the lower carbon frames are holding up well...

Mike, If I remember correctly Augusto's comparison included only very few parts such as mainshaft, tailboom, spindle, flybar and maybe something more.

In my comparison I compared more parts such as canopy, fins, mainshaft, tailshaft, torque tube or belt, lower frames or equivalent, tail supports, landing gear, spindle, flybar, tailboom etc...

It gives a ballpark figure about what a hard crash could cost and to me it showed that the Raptor was definitely the cheapest to repair by a large amount.
The Raptor and the Freya get even cheaper to repair if you buy parts from Asia.
I don't currently own any of the mentioned helicopters but the Raptor 60 came out very attractive.

Canopy and fins rarely rarely get destroyed on the freya and raptor...Unless you have a fiberglass one! If you do hit hard enough to destroy one of those canopies...all bets are off You'll be shopping for a new kit... Tough to compare the rap and freya...parts quality is at each end of the spectrum...I have had both.

This is what happens when you get a PCM lockout at 30-40 ft high. Luckily it landed on the skids.

The point is that neither the skids, the MPII nor the blades and such survived the hit. The CF frames passed with flying colors. This is one tough heli!

Going through it now. I am going to unassemble it all the way to make sure I didn't mess anything else up.

Man do I hate crashing.

This just in......
Crankshaft bent on the OS 91.

When are the new 91's supposed to be shipped?

Just so everyone is getting this down.......

OS 91......................................$220
MPII..........................................$110
Skids........................................$60
Blades......................................$100
flybar.........................................$5
mainshaft bearing...................$10
battery tray...............................$10

total $515

And guess what...The main shaft, spindle and boom survived intact!!

So much for the freaking crash index stuff.

Oh well it's only money, right?

Judging from the pics...

I'd say the skids can easily be fixed as I've done it often. They can withstand a couple of rebuilds. Just clamp them on a very good vise and take your time.

Same goes for the MP, as long as there's no punctures, it should run ok. You could try the water freezing trick to get the dents out.

There's no reason you have to absolutely return everything brand spankin new after every incident, especially during the learning stage where it gets pricey.

However, if you do like to keep your model pristene, then by all means go for it, but at least try salvaging the parts you took off and try rebuilding them, you will learn a lot.

My biggest deal is making it safe so I have no second thoughts while I fly.

Yes, I could straighten the gear or get some cheaper gear but I want it to look good, too.

I was talking to my buddy today about it. I am just having the worst luck with this heli. I am doing stupid mistakes and just having plain old bad luck. I am the first to say I am still learning (aren't we all) but lately weird stuff is happening that causes me greif.

Any way you look at it I am still having fun! It is just costing me more lately to have that fun.
