e-Electric Conversions > Another e conversion for hirobo uh-1b

I have test flown successfully my hirobo uh-1b today. I used the hirobo sceadu electric conversion kit, did some modifications to the frame and put in a Jeti Phasor 45-3 motor running on a Jeti 77A Opto ESC on a 2200 mah 8s1p 20C battery pack. Did not measure the temperature but everything was just luke warm to the touch after 3-5 minutes of hovering. I have some photos of it in my gallery and will post more photos later. Oh and I use 600 carbon Tech symmertical blades. The conversion kit utilizes the flywheel and clutch so the throttle response is similar to an nitro powered one.
Hope this provides another alternative to outrunner motors.

Happy landings to you all.

Got the conversion kit form the Hirobo dealer here in Hong Kong. I suggest you try your local Hirobo dealer. In the USA try MRC.

helipilot2,

You might try to order one on the internet. Try www.waigohobbies.com. I got mine there.

This may or maynot work. You may be able to use part of this for attaching the clutch to the motor but you might have to machine a different motor mount.

Helipilot2,

I'll go and check with the hobby shop and I'll get back to you. The shop has recently relocated their head office so the website might be out temporarily.

I wonder why this convertion kit didn't sell in the US. I guess the answer is called the Lepton

I believe like myself there are few others that would like to convert their Sceadu into an electric sceadu.

Oh well....is all about marketing!

helipilot2,

Looks like I gave you the wrong website ! Sorry ! It should be www.waigohobby.com The conversion kit stock number is 0412-240. They have 3 in stock now. They are about USD 120-130. Give them the stock number if you get in touch with them. They do not have the kit listed on the website catalog.

Good Luck.

Wilerbee, do you have any picutres of your hirobo uh-1b ep conversion? I'm starting one myself with the s30 mechs and wanted to see what you were able to come up with. I checked your gallery, but didn't see any close ups. If you have any and and send them or post them, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Hey T-WRECKS

I'm in the process of building the UH-1b and am using the Sceadu conversion with the Hacker motor. I also looked at the Jeti Phasor 45-3 motor, but it won't fit inside the heat sink mount without some machining work. I'm not sure how Wilerbee did his.

The Hacker that the Sceadu conversion was designed around fits just fine and has almost the same stats as the Jeti...except for the cost.

If you plan to go with the Sceadu conversion, don't assemble your side frames for the mechanics yet. I had to disassemble mine to modify the frame to clear the motor mount.

Also, the motor mount is a little too wide to fit inside the metal frame rails. I need to find a way to accurately machine a couple of mm off of each side. To keep the motor aligned, I think I need to mill these down fairly accurately.

I'll post some photos of my progress

Sorry Guys have been dozing off and not check this thread for a while.

The Jeti Phasor is definitely a tight fit !! I did not machine anything too !! I use an old plane prop to jam into the case slot opening it up a little and SLOWLY tap in the motor from one end of the fin case. NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART !!! The bottom metal frame bracket, I just hack off the sides of the engine mount plates. Oh, one upgrade might be worthwhile, I had a tail rotor gearbox failure and traced it down to be caused by possible tail blade holder failure, so upgrading to a Sceadu tail rotor blade holder might save your pride and joy !! Hope this helps !! And I will post some close ups later.

p.s. The sceadu conversion kit is built for the Hacker motor.

Thanks Wilerbee...that's good info.

What about the side frames...did you remove some of plastic bulkhead between the two frames?

Seems I can't get the motor mount back far enough to get the holes to line up.

Look forward to seeing some more photos

dhurst,

Yes you will need to cut out the "bump" at the back of the frame to enable the motor mount to line up vertically. While you are at it I recommend that you also drill holes to lighten up the frame. The frame as it is, is already too strong (and heavy) for nitro, believe me I wish I had done it when building my UH-1. I did it on my Lama though and it proves to be plenty strong enough. Of course, don't go crazy on drilling holes and over do it.

Good Luck
