Tail tales...

Dang it! I have a minor glitch in the tail build on page 19 in the manual.
http://vario-helicopter.de/fileadmi...mappen/2600.pdf

The XLV has a 6 mm output shaft, p/n 94/16. Now, look at the bearings, p/n 17/22. It's a 6x13x5 mm bearing. I.E., It don't fit man!

I live close to Boca Bearing and I use their bearings in all my r/c trucks. I'm considering changing out all the bearings during the build. Visit their site for the advantages. I prefer the green seals as they are good at keeping moisture out. I'll make a list of bearings from the manual, subbing two 6x13x6's for 17/22.... Maybe they'll do a package deal on the ultra smooth bearings like they do for the trucks.

Oh well, maybe I can assemble the three blade tail hub assembly until I get the right bearings.

Soon the setup will be ready for testing as the motor is on it’s way from Actro, and the accus will also arrive soon

Nice Perry.

That bearing listed is the correct bearing. I thought the last number was the ID but it's the thickness. The bearing installed is a 5x13x5. Everything else seems good though as far as fitting the 6mm shaft.

Guys, have you thought about the Neu Bam motors here;

http://flydma.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=1_7_8

Running 2 motors, 2 CC HV110 on 12s you are looking at over 8 HP cont. Throw in a couple packs of the 10K packs each and you would still get good flight time at much less than a Turbine.

Two Neu 22xx Bam motors $1140 (They make a double Bam also)

Two Castle Creations HV110 ESCs $540 (they make higher draw too)

Four Maxamps 10k ma 6s Lipos $1280

Even with 2 sets of batteries you are well under the turbine price.

Problem in my case is that I may see up to three or four hours flying time in a single day when doing the shows. That makes it a lot more than a turbine when considering the flight time and packs needed. Charging on site won't work, for now. Turbines and gassers are cheaper to feed with a schedule like that. BUT, for shooting stills for pannos and VT's, Electric rocks for noise restrictions.

Hi FBronk

A setup like that might work too in the XLV
but the gearing has to be changed to match the kv of the BAM motor,
with the Actro I don’t have to change the gearing, and the Power Jazz has so nice soooft startup

I will have a look at the Maxamp LiPos
With the use of 4 chargers, ( 6s @ 10A ) then it should not be a problem to charge that massive accu in one hour…

And think about the flying time with a 20000 mAh “fuel tank” around 40 minutes or so on one charge !

With 2 sets of these big Maxamp accus I could fly all day long

The Bam motors come in many KV so matching it should cause little concern.

Even with 20K ma it is cost eff for something that size.

The reason I selected the Actro 40 - 4 was that I need a 320 kv motor that has a lot of torque and can spin with a rpm over 10k on 12s with high efficiency, and the fact that Actro is easily available here in Sweden sealed the deal

Is there a BAM motor with a 320 kv ? I see a 480 kv type but no 320...

Yes the Maxamp cells appear to bee a cost-effective choice for a big 20000 mAh accu

A little update...

I looked at the Maxamps 10000 mAh cells... but Flight Power just cut there prices by some 8% and they are easily available here,
so I placed an order at the FP dealer here in Sweden,
4 Flight Power 4900 mAh 6s1p packs,
that make a 12s2p configuration in my XLV-E

And last night I got a mail from them saying that the big packs is on the way, should be here on Monday

Soon it’s time for the first test hover,
I will try to get it on video

Woohooo

The big accus are here
http://www.rcheli.se/phpBB220/album_pic.php?pic_id=7675
today i got a BIG box in the mail,
4 FP 6s1p 4900 mAh packs and 2 V-balancers,
that should make charging this big accus easy

Now if only the snow could melt away,
hmm... if I move the sofa and table out of the way...
it should be possible to test it in the livingroom...
nah.. I better wait for a nice warmer day to test it outside

Still some fine-tuning to do also before the first flight...

Collective Aerials
RCAPA #1287
The AUW with the "bricks" onboard is aprox 30 lb, about the same as the gas powered version...
I have to take it with me to work to get the exact AUW,
my kitchenscale is just not up to the job hehe

I will try and take some new pics this weekend...

I made a thing that’s threaded inside so it fits on the Actro 40 shaft and then locked it with to set screws,
at the end I copied the Zenoah cone so the clutch line up as it should, then a screw to hold the clutch in place on the adaptor,

I have a drawing of it here somewhere... I scan it and post a pic when I find it so you can see how it looks like inside
