Why not go for the Graupner Agusta 109, Martin Briggs covered this conversion recently in 'Rotorworld' magazine (I think)

If you go ahead and do the conversion be sure to post the details i.e cost, I have the I.C version of the 109 and could be tempted to convert it to electric at some point in the future.

Got it! Full steam ahead.

I bought the A109 today! i'm collecting the motor & speed controller on thursday oh and the batt as well.i'm using the same as what Martin Briggs has used in his coversion-so we shall see how striaght forward it really is?
So far the conversion has cost very little, the graupner parts where very cheap-so cheap i cant remember!no more than a tenner! the pinion was especially made and cost £30 but it realy is very good ,i like the fact that it has 4 grub screws!

I bought the tube drive conversion. But as it turns out it will not fit in the body! The standard boom has a bend in it tilting it upwards but the upgraded boom is straight,so i had two choices 1.shorten the boom and put a bulk head in ,or 2.put a bend in the boom! so i have put a bend in it!!!

The tail boom has worked a treat,I've bent it on the universal joint point-put a slot in it,I should be getting it welded tomorow.
The motor came today it cost £89.99 Not bad ! The speed controller will be £209 and the batt £390 10s 5000mah flight power.ive not done an accurate comparison with the ic verion yet,but i dont think there is alot init.if you include a govenor anyhow.

Glad it's working out for you. Are you painting it or do you have the decals?

i'm going to paint it,my favorite design has already been taken by a local flier, which i painted last summer .so i'm going to have to use my imagination.its all about keeping the wieght down with a job like this but i will be leaving a step by step acount of the job in the paint or scale section, including pictures of it on the scales before and after.

I have a very similar paint scheme on my A109 but mine is based on the Thames Valley Air Ambulance (G-TVAC)

Electric 109

Hi all,

Thanks for the replys regarding tail drives.
I went for the carbon tube with central support bearing in the middle of the drive shaft.
I have a metal boom and steel drive shaft from my uni 2K pod and boom and was going to fit that complete with the boom inside the body but didnt like the angle it took from the mechanics end drive gear.

Opted for the carbon tube and Universal joints at each end. I think its an ex cell part ?
Fitted a bulkhead just after the exhaust leaves the body to support the central bearing. Works okay with no problems. Easy to remove and check out every so often, just remove the tail drive gearbox and then pull the tube drive out from the body

Dont do what i did with the reciever ariel. I laid it in a piece of plastic tube along the length of the body (ie parrallel to the carbon drive tube). Terrible glitches until i found out the cause, nearly crashed into every field surrounding the flying site.
Re routed the ariel around the mechanincs and no more problems.

Have seen Martins electric 109 fly several times. Looks, sounds and flys very nice. Best of luck with yours.

this is where i'm at, at the moment.sorry about the poor light on the photos.

Putting the motor in was very easy. The only challenging part was the trimming of the frame, which, I must say , was also very easy.I used a dremel with the disc cutter tool and finished it with a file.Even with this in mind, the whole process took less than an hour!

Then it was on with the frame and in with the radio gear!!! Easy peasy. I must say the whole thing looks uncluttered and very neat.

This pics a bit better.

I've put the ESC on now,I had the choice between soldering on some connectors or soldering them directly. so I opted for the later,as in therory they cant come loose and its neater! But I am sure someone will tell me it's wrong! LOL -You know who you are!!!!!

nearly finished now!

Third time lucky with the tail. I found that the tail boom was too heavy on an already tail heavy model. So I cut it down to about 100mm,doing this I had to move one of the two bearings on the shaft. This was qiuet easy with a bit of heat and a lite 'tap'.I then had to reposition the bearing which I glued into place with some 24hr epoxy. The tail is now considerably lighter. I just hope that it'll work! I'm sure it will.
