Guys,

What exactly does Eric Larson mean by removing the flybar assembly in step one? I assume he means remove everything but the rotor head leaving the swashplate free, yes?

Also, if I do have any vibes I can only assume it has to be an out of balance head or a warped shaft. The shaft is a brand new hardened X3D shaft so this leaves me with an unbalanced head. How do I go about balancing it?

I think it means just buy a Trexx.

Sorry I couldn't resist. I had a Hornet a long time ago and hated the thing. Don't have a Trexx but I have flown a few and they are much better.

You could just contact Eric on the other site. He's very helpful.

I sent him an e-mail over a month ago about something else and never recieved a reply. I'm sure a couple of the other Hornet Guru's will chime in

I decided to go with the Lepton instead of the Trex, just waiting to put her together along with 3 other heli kits that I haven't started on.

As much as the Hornet keep pulling me in for more, I can't help but to say I love this little machine! She's going to be smooth as butter very soon.

Don't worry, with the tail drive removed and the blades off, it will be the flybar assembly symmetry or a bent shaft.

I would say yes, then you will see any bent shaft wobble.

It says nothing about removing the tail drive assembly, just the blades. It seems the first step is removing the main blades, tail blades, and the flybar assembly. I can only assume he means remove everything but the rotor head but I suppose I could also just remove the flybar, control horn and the two links that connect it to the swashplate?

I'm 100% sure my linkages are exact so symetry shouldn't be an issue. It's also a brand new hardened X3D main shaft so it should be perfectly straight. This was a replacement since my kit came with the old soft shaft.

Anyhow, with just the rotor head and grips (no linkage or flybar) attached to the mainmast I decided to insert it into the main chassis and rotate it to verify a smooth. I remeber felling a small wobble? This can onl lead me to beleive that my rotor head is out of balance (is it possible I used to much glue on one side?) or MS needs quality control on their main shafts!
