Can someone recommend a replacement engine for LMH110? I have the Norvel vmax6 but it is always a serious pain to get it to start. Once it's goin its fine but this is my 13 year old nephew's heli and I dont think he will have the patients to deal with it. I've heard that cox makes one that will fit but I dont know which one it is or where to get it.

LMH Engine

1) new Vmax-6 usually solves most of the problems ($44)

2) the new Vmax-7 074 supposed to be better in anyway($89 upgrade).

3) the most common upgrade (can get something at $130) -
ELECTRIC ! and then you dont have to mess with anything any more.

4) other upgrades like 0.10 engines are too expensive and heard that
not worth it.

LMH replacement engine

If there is not a squeaky tight fit at TDC (top dead center) with the head off -- you need a new piston and sleeve. Worked for me!!

lmh starting

Hold heli with its right side down and manually prime intake with about three or four drops fuel, keep in this position while cranking. You may have to reprime once or twice but this works fairly well for me. I don,t know if the V-max 7 will start better,it may need the same procedure.

LMH engine

COX wont be better - just less power.
There lots of reasons for starting problems. could be wrong fuel,
bad plug, low compression, slow starter, bad glow starter, dirt
loose back plate,or just a bad engine.

When all the setup is right , and you dont have any of the above problem they start pretty easy. but i know they can be a pain i been there.

I recomend electric convesion for your son. its just easy. And LMH
is ideal for this conversion.

Agreed.... Go electric. The regular LMH flies great as an electric but if you upgrade to the Corona you can carry a bigger battery pack. You'll have to buy a good peak charger for 6-8 cells and of course some battery packs but the rest is fairly inexpensive. A Kyosho Atomic Force is about $20.00 and a Castle Creations Pegasus heli electronic speed control is about $40.00. The Velocity electric, laser cut, crutch kit is $25.

Let me know if you decide to go this route and I'll help you with pinion selection and such or you can go over to; www.ezonemag.com and click the discussion link to ask questions or search for past LMH or Corona threads for info.

Norvel Vmax-6

I can't comment on the electric upgrade, but here are a few things I found out.

1. Voltage to the glow plug. These plugs are 2 volt not 1.2, a fully charged SCR cell will work fine, use an extra plug to check that you are getting enough juice, I have also used 2 AA's in series for 3 volts in a pinch without burning up the element.
2. Prime. These engines like to start wet, especially the first start of the day. Don't flood it, but since the intake is below the cylinder it is having to suck fuel uphill through the crankcase.
3. Voltage to your starter. Starting is marginal at best with ~12v on a standard starter, it just doesn't spin fast enough. Try the Mark Ryder Benford conversion. (2)6 cell nicad packs are about 16-17 volts straight off the charger.
Once you get these 3 things worked out, it should start every time. I know some people have had problems and that will happen with just about any engine. Once I got mine dialed in, it starts every time, no muss, no fuss. Prime, glow, starter.....BBRRAAAPPP. I have heard people post that they use half throttle to get theirs to start. Mine starts everytime at high idle on throttle hold. And as usual YMMV. Good luck.
