Whew!!

Did some preliminary testing with the E-Raptor.

Running the B50-15XL on 24 cells (Trinity Vis-Matched 3300's) 600mm blades in a Raptor 50 Frame.

Rotor head speed is not a problem, mine turns 2000 on the head at 60% throttle.

Top speed looks very good also. It may be even a little faster than my 30 size drag machine.

About the Holeshot.

Now we are in the land of

"Houston, WE HAVE A PROBLEM"

Won't find out for sure, but maybe this weekend I can get some 100 meter times on the heli.

I don't think the 3300's are really needed either, they run fairly hard for a good 6 minutes. Some lighter, lower capacity cells might be in order.

Preliminary indications are that the 20 to 24 cell machines might be comparable to 30 class (max engine .39) machine.

Anyone else done any drag testing??

For you Logo guys, What does the Logo 20 weigh without any batteries??

Thx

Ken

Hi Ken,

My LOGO 20 has the beefier 100/70 rotor head (LOGO 30) which adds a bit of weight and 28mm to the rotor span, plus a 120 gram receiver pack. It weighs 2330 grams rtf with MS 600 blades.

What ESC are you using? I'd be concerned about running at such a low throttle percentage. Have you thought about "gearing down" a bit?

Cheers!

Cheers!

The DARK SIDE?!?!!?

Tim,

No, not exactly,

We do have a field where electrics only are allowed to fly before noon on the Sat and 1:00 on Sunday. It's pretty close to my house.

Otherwise, I still have the gas drag machines. Found some really neat s%$t about my 60 class machine, I'll tell you about it sometime.

E-G Thanks for the weight info!

I am using the Hacker MASTER 48-3P OPTO 8-30 cells (timing-frequency adjustable)

I have considered gearing it lower, but the only gears I have available now are the 95T TT or 95T Excell gears.

What's available from the Logo parts?

Thanks,

K

KEN,
have you tried Eflightpacks.com for your batteries? I have used them in the past when I had ep concept and a Elmh. I found their 1700mah packs gave longer flight time than my sanyo 3000 mah packs, due to the weight diffence, i don't recall the weight but I was only using 8 cells and the 8cell pack weighed less than a 6 cell sanyo or trinity 3000 pack. Just a thought. Also I am sure you have figured out by now you need some high amp packs, my Elmh pulled a max 30 amps, my standerd car packs would give me 1-2 minute flights, the cells i got from Eflightpacks came highly recomended from others who were flying electric helis.

lithium polymer cells

I don't know what sort of money you want to have tied up in a single helicopter but have you had a look at lithium polymer cells. Unlike lithium Ion cells thay can deliver quite a large current. Most people run them at 4C, so if you have a 2000mAH pack you can run them at 8A. This doesnt sound very much but they are extremly light and each cell gives you 3.4 V. To match your 24 cell voltage you would need 8 or 9 cell in series, then to get your current draw you piggyback packs until you get close to the 3C-4C range. They curently use these sorts of packs to power 1/4 scale aerobatic aircraft with no problems. The cost of these packs is quite high at the moment it could be quite a few hundred dollars for a pack to run your machine but you could go a whole day of flying without having to charge and your heli would be much lighter than it is at the moment. Just a thought, good luck with the supercharger too, I'm very interested in how it all goes.

Li-Po cells

Concept,

i havn't tried them, but Ronnie-O let me fly his JR Venture with the Li-Po cells.

Flew pretty well, and flys long time!!!

Maybe after I hit the lottery I can buy some, bot for now, my 6 minute routine is OK for me.
