| Thanks to ACMA and Rob @ Hobbytown for this exciting day and the items given away during the drawings.
I made the trek from Dallas, TX for this event and to see some long lost flying buddies. Good to see Alvin hasn’t lost his charm and Tony even invited me to stick around after the flying to chow down.
I was there representing the Dallas folks from Mike’s Hobby shop and was going to really show them how we do it here! I think I was one of the first to fire up and fly. The flight ended nicely on my freshly rebuilt Titan with only a set of broken TT600 blades, frames, landing gear, tail boom and a dented Yellow canopy. No bad servo story this time. Now maybe it was me but I will swear that those Alabama UV rays @ 8:00 in the morning are a lot different that the ones we have here in TX. Now I’m not saying that it was the sun that was in my eyes that caused my Titan to get hurt. I believe it was the tears in my eyes from when I first seen Alvin and he wouldn’t give me a hug after 17 years. Only a handshake and a whiff of cigarette smoke in my face. Well what can you expect from a fella that only a mother could love? I won’t even try to explain what happened with my once sweet little T-Rex SE. All I have to say is the T-Rex was just asking for it with it’s waggy tail and such. I told David that in just a few minutes I would know exactly what was wrong with it! I think Frits may have taken a few pics of it for posterity.
Anyway the day progressed nicely and I got to see several people I hadn’t seen in some time. There were some events such as “Knock Over the Bottle”, Auto-Rotate Contest and Drag racing. I was afraid to try and knock over those 2 Litre bottles with a T-Rex as the bottles stood higher than my machine. I could only be sure of knocking down one bottle as my blades would probably have hit it.
Even with my mass terror of fling wing destruction I felt pretty good after Tony invited me to stick around for the cookout. It was at this point I told of how my Texas buddies in Mt. Pleasant buys lunch or dinner for the folks that have heli-mishaps. Of course Alvin pointed out I must really suck at flying since I have put on 100+ lbs since he last seen me.
The meal was darn good. They had jambalaya, grilled ham, deviled eggs, meat balls in sauce, cheese balls, pickled tomatoes/onions/cumbers, fudge, cakes, pies and way more than I can remember. The cook was saying something ‘bout a special marinade sauce concocted by just cleaning out the fridge of old items. Whatever the glaze was it worked well. Now I can’t be sure, but I think I seen the cook take some type of bottle with special ingredients and a “90 Proof” inscription on the label and finish up simmering the jambalaya. The first helpin’ I thought was pretty darn good but I wasn’t sure so I went in for seconds to validate. Yep, it was that darn good! I doubt anyone left hungry. Dang I wish I had some of that jambalaya.
But of course there was an after dinner show too with the local talent giving various rendentions of our holiday favorites. The only song that I couldn’t relate to the season was Alvin’s a cappella performance of “Delta Dawn”
Thank you Gary for the T-Rex tips and hope to see you at May Day 2007.
