I've been doing hardcore e-mail for almost 20 years. I'm just not used to thing disappearing from my inbox w/o me manually removing them. I'd much rather have size limits with the ability to control everything. If it's a space issue I'd be happy to make another $$$ contribution to support RR and maintain a larger personal mailbox.

RR has plenty of storage with contribution not necessary. System design is based on the best compromise. I appreciate the input.

The new system is a real hassel. Why not have an option and let the community choose? Let the majority rule!!

Mark,

Here is a compromise.

How about a resend button on all the sent item?

This will make it easier to reply to previous sent emails.

I just changed some visual cues for grouped PMs in response to your re-reply frustration.

Basically the system is leading you to an empty inbox. The trick is to review your work by looking in your Sent folder. There is something new that you might not be aware of that helps. You can click the number next to the member name and view a group of all your PM interaction with that member. You can re-reply from the grouped list.

I don't care for it at all, but I guess I can adapt.

Speaking for myself, I don't like messages jumping folders on thier own, especially to trash which deletes them after time. Like "hey I wanted that"

Another thing is, say I get a PM from someone and for reference I keep it in the inbox. Then later I reply to them. Before they reply back, I think of something else to say but the message is gone now so I have to go to sent folder. No good, that replies back to me. Ok I'll go to trash and reply from there. Great now I have to sort through the trash to find the message I want among the REAL trash.

Now my messages are scattered all over 2 or 3 folders and mingled with junk. I do understand that you can click on the small number beside the name of the person, after you find a message to or from them. So that little number is handy for that. Seems a step away from simplicity.

All member PMs are grouped when you click the number next to the member name. The sent folder is where you go if secondary issues arise from your PM activity. It contains your latest replies.

The biggest problem i'm having is after i reply to a PM, most of the time i need to PM that person again. The copy of the sent PM is like i PM'd myself, so when i click "reply to" it sends my own PM i sent to them back to me.

If we were just chatting back and forth it's not a big deal, but when selling/buying/information request, i'm having to go to the trash folder and move the orginal PM back to my index to keep track of everything. It's extra steps that are anoying. Quoto's would be a better choice.

Another REALLY anoying problem is after you send a PM a copy of that goes to your sent folder, then one goes to PM unread folder for tracking. if you delete the PM's in your sent folder the PM's in your unread tracking folder vanish, and can't be retrieved, even if you move the deleted PM back to your sent folder.

The goal is an empty inbox and a tidy Sent folder.

1) No need to visit trash. In your sent folder all PM's for a member are available by clicking the number next to the member's name.

2) Tracking is tied to your Sent folder copy. Tracking would only end if you completely remove your sent copy (delete from trash).

The PM system works good. I use the hell out of it

Mark, i think your alone when you say it works good. it seems the majority find it more irritating, and i honestly have to agree.

i dont like things disapearing on their own. i know you want a clean Inbox, but i can take care of it myself like i used to before you changed it.

and like others have said, when i want to save a message from someone that i may want to refer to again, i have to go retreive it from the trash. or i have to go retreieve the message from the trash if i want to send another message to the same person on the same subject.

it would be nice if we had a check box of some sort where we can opt out of certain settings. then you can keep it the way you like, but for those of us who dont like it, can opt out of it.

thats my 2 cents.

I would find the ability extremely useful to be able to bundle up my RR mails into a file then send it to my outside personal email system for storage.

Don't know whether this is possible or even feasable.

Nothing disappears and you don't have to retrieve things from trash. Just click your Sent folder tab. It's all summarized there (click numbers). The PM system is taking care of business for the vast majority. Just remember to click your Sent folder tab.

Exporting PM's will be added to the RR To Do list. Thanks for the feedback.

I know i can click the Sent folder to get a message i have just replied to...but what i'm getting at, is if i would like to send another message to that same person, and use the Sent folder, i will end up sending the message to myself. so i have to recover the mesage that was sent to the trash so i dont end up sending it to myself...

or am i still missing something?

In your Sent folder's "Sent To" column, click the number next to a member's name. You will be presented with a summary of all PM's (all folders) for that member. To resend, look at the "From" column and pick a PM to re-reply to. Notice each PM's color coded icon shown to the left. The icons are explained at the bottom.

ok, i see now.

but i still think its easier if the PM is just left in the Inbox instead of going through all that...sorry for being lazy

I would so much prefer it, if messages replied to were not moved to the Trash, at least an option to make it behave that way. Everything else works great, but that "feature" is just so annoying and not like any other messaging system, e-mail or forum, that I use. Every day I go to the trash and move everything back to my inbox. I must be missing something, too. Go to my Sent folder to look at received messages? Are the messages still deleted after 30 days?

Move your trash. What for?

Go to your sent folder. It's all there for your tracking pleasure.

Please read my replies above to understand the logic.

Before the redesign there were members with thousands and thousands of replied to PM's in their inbox (roting away). The new inbox functionality is working for the vast majority and helps maintain order.

I understand the design, keep it clean automatically, avoid duplication. I just prefer to have my received messages in my inbox, therefore when messages I reply to are moved to the Trash, I move them back to the inbox ... :S

With regards to the Sent folder, the received message is not there other than potentially quoted in my reply. In order to keep messages short and clean, many times I delete the quoted/replied to message part, and the received message will then not be anywhere except the Trash. I guess this is the part that's outside the norm.

It's there.

In your sent folder, the inbox received message is available via the member summary link (number) next to each member name.
