RunRyder Member Service > New Functionality for PM Reply and Save Copy

The goal is an empty inbox and a tidy Sent folder.

HELP-FAQ Private Messaging - Where did my Inbox PM go?

As before, the system default is to save a copy of your sent PMs. The saved copy is placed in your Sent folder. For this, there is new functionality as follows. If the replied to PM resides in a folder other than the inbox, the saved copy will stay in the same folder as the replied to PM.

And now for the trash.

If you save a copy of your sent PM (the default) there is new functionality as follows. The replied to PM is moved to trash (empty inbox). If the previous saved PM matches the newest saved then it too is moved to trash. This keeps your Sent folder automatically nice and tidy.

This new functionality helps with house cleaning by automatically thinning out redundant PMs. Trash folder PMs are automatically pruned after 30 days.

With an empty inbox you now go to your sent folder to review all PM work. Next to each "Sent To" member name is a number link that summarizes all PM's for that member including what's trashed.

I replied from the trash folder. I can't find the "Sent" message anywhere. It is listed in the "Unread" filter but I can't restore it move it or anything with it to read what I had sent.

Bug fixed. If you reply from the trash folder, saved will be placed in the sent folder. Thanks for the feedback.

I understand Mark.

It's difficult to test every situation. This topic is good for optimizing it.

If I could have anything I wanted, I'd ask for a "trash original PM" checkbox in the reply page. There are some I'd like to keep.

Im finding it a little unhandy that if you read a PM but dont have the time to reply to it immediately it seems that it goes to the READ folder and then you cant click it to reply at a later time. This seems unhandy. Shouldnt they stay in the inbox until they are replied to or until you manually move them ?

Inbox items move to Trash only if you reply to them. Nothing happens if you just view them.

Mark,

At first I was thrown by this and didn't care for it too much, but it seems a good way to keep up with the "house cleaning"

Thanks!

It works good now. What exactly are you needing? You where referring to a bug that was fixed when replying from the trash folder. You need to look in your sent folder for all the good stuff.

New Functionality for PM Reply and Save Copy

As before, the system default is to save a copy of your sent PMs. The saved copy is placed in your Sent folder. For this, there is new functionality as follows. If the replied to PM resides in a folder other than the inbox or trash folder, the saved copy will be placed in the same folder as the replied to PM.

And now for the trash.

If you save a copy of your sent PM (the default) there is new functionality as follows. The replied to PM is moved to trash. If the previous saved PM matches the newest saved then it too is moved to trash.

This new functionality helps with house cleaning by automatically thinning out redundant PMs. Trash folder PMs are automatically pruned after 30 days.

When I reply to a PM, it goes in the trash. When I go in the trash and click the box of the pm, and click "move to: inbox", it's not moving it to the inbox (from the trash) .

A few weeks ago, the pm would stay put after I replied to it in my inbox. Some PM's I get have phone numbers or addresses etc, and even though I reply to them, would like to be able to save them.

The sent folder has your info saved. There is no need to mess with trash. The system has changed and works for the better regarding house cleaning.

I tested moving things out of trash and it works fine.

Moving things to inbox from trash still not working. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong

I do understand now about the sent folder saving the info though. Thanks again Mark Now I see how this can be helpfull.

You click the [move to] drop down and select where to move.

Then click the blue [move to] button.

No offense, but I really don't like the way this works. I'd rather do manual house cleaning.

I am contemplating adding another PM reply option. You would check to NOT move the redundant replied to PM to trash. This would make things more complicated (not good). I need to hear why the new way is unworkable. So far, and once understood, it seems to provide a more productive work flow.

Remember that there are no limits being imposed on PM storage with no arbitrary pruning. The new imposed PM work flow was designed to help avoid imposing PM storage restrictions or any other arbitrary measures.

Clarifications:

Just reading a PM does nothing, except change it's flag color.

Just reading a PM does NOT trash it.

The new functionality comes into play when you reply.

When you reply, your reply is saved in the Sent folder (save copy is checked by default).

When you reply, the original Inbox PM you replied to is moved to trash.

Your saved reply contains a quoted copy of the original Inbox PM that was moved to trash.

When you finish replying your Inbox is empty (nothing left to do).

To review work done go to your Sent folder.

In your Sent folder, as in any folder, there is a number to the right of each member’s name.

Click that number to review all correspondence with that member (includes trash).

In closing, change is hard and I am truly sorry for any inconvenience. Granted, the new PM functionality is like no other. The implementation was conceived based on several factors. House cleaning was one and believe it or not convenience was the other.
