Hornet vs. Piccolo

Well I think the Hornet is better because it flies allot better (I have flown both) parts seem to be about the same to get...BUT you can upgrade the Hornet to CCPM and do loops and rolls I don't think you can do that with the Piccolo...

I to will vote for the Hornet. I dont think you will se a sugnifigant difference in flight times. But I personally like the way the Hornet is settup as opposed to the Picolo. Some of the things are the fact that the tail is gear driven like a nitro heli. Also the little boom mounted servo for the tail. And I also like the CCPM settup. I have seen pics of the thing hovering inverted. So it looks pretty cool to me. I do own one but have yet to fly it. I still need a few parts. But the Hornet was the one I chose over the Picolo. Just my oppinion though.

Check out www.hornet-heli.com for a lot of imfo on micro helis. Its kind of the RunRyder of micros.

Brian,
Gee, I didn't know they have the CCPM Hornet out yet... Last i was told they are going to come out with the collective pitch Hornet. That's way cool if they have the CCPM model out. Any link to that info?

I was thinking of owning one. Volkul post one about the hornet and thinking any poor sucker would buy that. I like to disagree with his opinion... I think Hornet is far better than Piccollo..

I am pretty sure he meant the Hornet NT. Which does not have a tail rottor. Which in that case is a buyer beware. IMPO. But the standard Hornet is better IMPO.

I had a Piccolo last winter, it was fun but I was on a constant hunt for better batteries. The Piccolo was good for indoor hovering but I would think the Hornet would be better for all around performance.

I wouldn't buy either right now. I own two piccolos but before you can which is better, it depends on the purpose. I have two pics, the first is for hovering in the house only, despite what some people say, the fixed pitch piccolo really is an indoor heli only (unless ther is NO wind & I mean none). With tons of mod it will fly outside on calm days ok but its not exactly fun, challenging is the best way of putting it. I also own a CP piccolo which I am currently trying to find time to put together, reports of the CP upgrade are good so far but the piccolo has a problems even with the CP mod is that any prolonged input will add an off set input @ 90 degree, the swash was never really meant for 3D though :-) Another common thing you hear is that the piccolo floats and the Hornet flys, can't really comment on this as I've never seen the hornet fly in real life but from videos, I'd have to agree. The Piccolo has one thing going for it however, it takes the knocks better than the hornet, the piccolo is designed to fall apart on an impact more than the hornet is and the hornet tends to be more expensive to fix because of this.

Why wouldn't I buy either now? MS is working on a CP version of the hornet (mod kit in Feb for the stock Hornet) and Ikarus are working on a whole new micro based on the 3D version of the Pixel (I'll find some videos of this if anyone is interested). There is also the housefly to look at from MIA, this is a brand new sub-micro that looks very promising. The hornet Vs Piccolo topic was covered on the Piccolo BBS a week or so ago, surpisingly this wasn't a flame war and very objective as most the Piccolo owners their also own the hornet as well.

I was going to get a Piccolo until I disscovered the Hornet, so I end up getting the Hornet. I have not flown a Piccolo, but I think I made the right choice.
