Lol, how does one lick a heli? And in which way did Ed hurt his feelings?
Don't mean to offend anyone, just having a laugh up north...

Didn't make it? Pay up, try again!

None of my helis have attacked me but I was static testing an EDF motor and fan about a month ago and the fan came loose at 50,000 rpm and shot across the room. On it's way out it took a big chunk of my right ring finger with it right next to the nail. (Yes, stupid me was holding it in my hand) It cut cleanly all the way down to my nail and I got to see what flesh looks like for a few seconds before the gushing started. Of course I waited to do this when nobody else was home. Luckily I didn't need to go the ER. Thought I was gonna have to for a minute there though...

Note to self, never hold anything that spins at 50K rpm in your hand...

Left the heli for a while. Was later adjusting something and touched the exhaust, burnt myself. Not badly or anything. Just went ouch.

That's my worst experience.

Like LouInSD, I had a Dynamax fan on a OS91 loose a blade at 30,000rpm while I was running it up in my garage in '89(I was 18). Took half my right thumb with it. Could not reattach. I'm a thumber on the sticks so it really put a kink in my flying for a year of so. Now its a layer of skin from my arm just over bone that the stick rests on when I fly. No more planks but it has been a small issue with the heli's with no feeling at the contact point with the TX stick(cyclic of course!) I tried to pinch but it was hopeless. Not heli related but a good story and another twist... I've got black hair growing out of the end of my thumb. The graft was from the inside of my rt underarm. I know its gross but I can make a dreadlock on my thumb if I let it grow! No more Dynamax fans for me..could have been my eye....

This is the result of a Lepton that I accidently reversed the throttle channel on during setup. I was moving thru the reversing menu of the JR9303 and as I was 'rolling' the selector, I inadvertenly pushed in hard enough to 'click' the button in. Of course, this happened just as the selector was moving across the throttle channel (JUST MY LUCK). Hold was on and set to -20, and the throttle was at low stick, so basically the heli went to FULL THROTTLE as soon as the channel reversed.

On a side note, the slow spool up setting on the CC Phoenix 60 could be a bit slower. LOL!

I now will ONLY setup electrics with a Rx battery as a precaution. Oddly enough I was just about ready to do just that before my accident. Lesson learned. BTW, the AMA covered approximately $3,000 (almost the total cost) for medical expenses. I'LL FLY AMA FOREVER!!!!

Dayam! That must have hurt. I NEVER use the motor battery when I make adjustments. I use the flight pack ONLY. With my smaller 450SE, I unplug the motor because there is not flight pack. I've got too many rug rats running around so I cant afford to have a live e-heli around. That's the drawback AND benefit of E-Helis...instant power!

Did you put that skin back on? It still looks very much alive laying there on the carpet. I hope the hand is much better now.

The skin was a loss. I was very lucky. I severed only one tendon across the back of my hand (middle finger) and I had an EXCELLENT surgeon put me back together. Other than the arthritis, I would say that my hand and fingers are about 97% normal, except for the scar of course. But then again, chicks dig scars.

After starting my first plank a week ago i am thinking that planes r more dangerous than heli's!!! At least with the heli there is a clutch - it's much less intimidating to fly a plane but to squat next to a spinning prop is very different for me.

Aside from a few muffler burns and wallet damage (does stress n frustration count as an injury?!?!!) I've been pretty lucky. Counted my blessings when my 50 crashed 5m from me and threw a blade 20m behind me tho, could have been very nasty!

Is 5m close and how far is 20m in feet?

C'mon, u can fly the hardest hobby in RC but can't convert metric to imperial!?!?!?

Heli backflipped for some mechanical reason from a tail in hover and landed inverted 16 feet in front of me. One blade ended up about 50 feet behind me.

Imagine catching that in the eye or throat?! Good NHP Razors too

Throttle hold is your best friend! My friend drills that in my brain because anything can happen while starting your heli. I had my first experience from when the starter cable moved my throttle stick while I was sitting it down. I was holding the head for dear life and my buddy saved me from a burned clutch and possible injury.

Becareful guys. We love this sport and we gotta treat it like a loaded gun.:P

Happy flying

Shredder...
been there to many times lol.
Damn starter cables :S

Not much happened to me really.
My brother had 3 fingers cut to the bone from an old Enya 19 (little ones can bite bad), ummm, burnt myself more times than i can remember on heli mufflers, first time i started a plane was with a starter, ticked it over to get some fuel in it (no glow plug ignitor on there) and low and behold i had carved a perfect M on my wrist (heres a pic healing over) thank got i didnt get a vein!

So now i'm a huge fan of the old chicken stick.
Never had a heli big enough to get the shins (50's here), had a backflipping glitch that almost landed on me in the first few months of flying
First crash i had a rotor blade fly past my head (heard it but could barly belive it, eventually found it, sits on my shelf to remind me!).

Have reversed the throttle before (initially the pitch was reversed so in the heat of the moment i reversed the throttle instead, first flight after a rebuild and darn nothing i put on lasted a single flight, infact barly flew :S).

Had a chap sever a finger at a funfly, amazing how much they bleed.

Managed far more injuries skating, exposed shin bone, exposed my jaw bone on two occasions, more concussions can you can count on a village worth of fingers and toes, ramp burn removed 1/3 of the skin on my back once, fractured my heel, impaled fingers, chipped much of my right elbow socket off, KO or two, shins like the himulayers, various bits of bone cultivated around the knee....

Oh, one thought on the starter, shorted a 12'v on the soft bit between the thumb and first finger, flash fryed the skin, white and crunchy, mmmm, i smelt chicked
