I've long been facinated with the folks that do aerial photography with their R/C rigs. I tried my hand at making a crude camera mount for my Corona. The 7MP digi camera sits at the rear of the Voyager landing gear, and it weighs 8oz with the battery and memory stick. I use an 8 cell NiMH battery crutch mounted so the camera kind of balances the heli out. I know the Voyager LG battery clip is in the way as well as the antenna wire, but this was a test flight.

Submitted for your entertainment, here is a couple of stills from the movie - it's my neighborhood from above. Anyway to guess on how high the copter was from the pics?? Yes, that little white speck in the grass field in the second pic is me....

Nice one. Looks like you've got a bit of height there too!
The corona makes a great AP platform for small spaces!

Nice job! I tried with mine a couple times. I used my camera on the video mode once and it was great...but very heavy. Then I tried my CVS hacked video camera but the vibrations from the heli distorted the image....the straight lines on the ground wiggled back and forth. I hope that once my parts get in....the vibrations will end and I too can do some video.

Great shots. AP images are interesting. Objects seem to appear 3x farther from the air. If you know the field of view of the camera and had some known reference mark on the ground (distance between the two clumps of trees where you are standing) you could probably figure out the height with some simple trig.

For your next experiment try mounting the camera facing sideways, do some figure-8s and watch the scenery zip by. I love the sound of the wind and blades.

Vibration is big problem even with a smooth-running Corona. Try isolating the camera from the crutch/landing gear as much as possible. I tried using masking tape and made a sling between the landing gear to hold the camera. That seemed to isolate the vibs. I must say, your heart skips a few beats when a $300+ camera is attached and you are up 30 feet above the ground.
