Yeah mine were that tight i thought the tube was gonna split!!

Could be the problem maybe the splines were deformed on the way in?

Just checked mine after a flight today and it felt like something was slipping when trying to turn the tail and holding the head. Stripped it down and it turns out that I hadn't got the four grub screws in the bevel gear lined up with the flats properly - doh.

The tube inserts and collars were solid but whilst it's apart i'm gonna drill and fit a 2mm bolt through the collar, tube and insert at either end so that it can't turn should the grub screws slip.

I've drilled and bolted R90 tubes before and never had one fail with a 3mm bolt so a 2mm should be fine.

Hopefully this is an isolated incident but better to be safe than sorry.....

Believe u me.

The lack of the 3mm grub screw that i've now modified it with has cost me the best part of £300

How is something designed to be bullet proof by JK and tested by JK
failing ? What has been Synergy's response ?

The design is fine, the problem comes from the incredibly variable quality control.

Also that part causes issues if you ahve to take the ends out at any time. if you move it once it is never the same.

i roughened the insides and smeared my ends with epoxy before pushing them in.

Torque tube failure

have just got mine all finished and ready for a test fly but am a bit nervous as my ends were loose fitting in the tube as well , think i will strip it out and do the mod . Whats the best way of getting the torque tube out ?

Undo boom clamps at main frames, remove boom support clamp, undo rear tail drive clamp, pull boom out of heli, remove pinion ass. from front of boom, pull boom off tube.

Actually you could just undo tail box clamp and pull whole torque tube out and leave boom in place i think!

I think I found similar tools to the ones we'll need to do this mod.

Mind you i think they use these in the Synergy Factory

Drilling and pining the TT is totally unnecessary. There is no way you'll have a full speed piro if the couplers are inserted into the TT and the collars are installed. If the collars come off and the coupler is still inside the TT there is enough friction to drive the tail. You can see that even in the pictures. How else do you have worn areas all around the teeth where the set screws are located? The pic shows crash damage not pre-crash loss of the collar/coupler/set screws. I think what really happened was the set crews that hold the rear coupler to the input shaft of the tail box were not tightened completely or became loose and let go. When they let go you'll have a full speed piro on your hands. I would put a little more faith in JK and TBs design.

tt removal

2 screws holding the tailbox assy on need to come out and the whole thing pulls right out. great design and easy to do.

i agree that the system as designed is very robust. i put another 10 flights on the heli today and continued to hammer the tail in both directions. checked it again afterwards and it is still tight.

from an engineering point of view, the design is sound.
