Gohbee Stinger 50 with V Carbon Blades (expensive) and Hyper 50.
Ahhh. I am about to pound my head against the cement.
I have spent the last 5 hours balancing my fan/hub assembly, the clutch, clutch bell, tail rotor, main blades and the darn thing behaves the same as it did before. Serious vibration in the tail assembly and funky blade tracking.
I took the main blades off and ran it up to see what happens. Very little vibration (I would be happy with that). I went and rebalanced the blades dynamically and statically. Put the blades back on and the darn thing has vibration.
Plus the blade tracking is terrible. I keep chasing my tail. First one blade is high, I adjust it and it is way too low. Back and forth. I pulled the head off and checked the blade holder bearings, the spindle, the dampers, the flybar, etc. All looks good.
What the heck is going on??? I can't get rid of the vibration and I can't get the blades to stay in track. Plus at different speeds they track differently.
I have also replaced all of the ball links because I thought I had too much play.
I have not place to go from here. I give up!
Could it simply be some flaw with the blades??? I hate buying another set just to check them out. Maybe I will stick some woodies on there.
It is not like I am a newbie to this hobby. I have 4 years on nitro and 5 years on e-helis. Never had this much trouble before.

Any ideas???
Thanks,
Gary

One more thing i thought of was a bent spindel.
And then i thought it has got to be the V-blades are bad, try a different set to see if that gets every thing in track.

Hey I didn't ask for this fetish.!!!But I'am sure paying for it....

Sorry your heli is being a pain.

I read thru your post and here is what I have to offer:

You ran the heli without blades and it runs smooth, so I think you have to look at the spindle, main mast and I would try another blade set. Since the problem is magnified by the blades, I think something is out of true, or out of rig.

An out of track heli will shake, so I think before I went nuts chasing this, I would first put on some different blades. I would then reset all of the pitch angles, checking that both blades have the same angle especially at 0 deg and try again. Make sure you have enought head speed and check the track in hover. Eliminate the blades, then work in from there.

Good luck!

Check the starter shaft, they can be a cause of vibrations on the Stingers. Do you have the old (solid shaft pressed into clutch) or new (clutch has one-way) shaft? Also check the runout on the fan while its on the motor, I had one that was slightly out.

What about your rubbers dampers??? Are they new or old??? Maybe they are to soft. You also need to lubricate the rubber dampers with grease.

Thanks

Thanks for the replys.
The heli only has about 4 gallons of fuel through it. I have never really gotten the vibration out of it. The blade tracking has always been difficult. I probably should have tried some other blades but just have not tried them yet.
I bought some "on edge" dampers but they seem to extend out too much from the head and when I tigthen down the screws into the feathering shaft they lock up the blade holders from pivoting.
I have lubed the existing dampers. Appearance wise they seem ok.
I had the blades in track in a hover but then they went out by themselves. As if there is some binding of such. The tracking is speed dependent.
I then took the blades back off and checked the bearings in the blade holders ( I actually have new radial and thrust bearings) and all seem ok. I checked the spindle on a flat surface and it seems true. I re-set the paddles to see if they were out but they are good. I took off the control linkages and re-checked the measurements and they seem ok. I think I took the main shaft out a few weeks ago(when I replaced the main gear) and checked it, but I have done so many things I can't remember if I did or not anymore. I have not flown this heli in over 2 months now because I am afraid it will tear itself apart.
I have talked with David at Gohbee and we are going to meet to see if he can help. I live near him and hopefully he can shed some light on my problems. I will let you know what happens.

PS: What do I check on the starter shaft??? It is the kind with the one-way bearing. What would the problem be?

5 gallons with any crashes? Did it vibe the first flight? Did you, since your flying one, try a set of gohbee 600 carbons? no the heli isnt dependant, but my point is something went wrong from initial assembly. Did you just assemble the sub assemblies? OR was other upgrades done during build? PM me if you like , I'll give you my cell. Something goofy happened during assemble I can almost guarantee you. We just have to find it but I have to know the history of build from open box to now. Every Stinger I have built has rocked right out of the box, soooooooo get ahold of me if your interested.

Oh - yea Dave's a helluva nice guy aint he?? Does the term southern hospitality proud!
