Avant Aurora - EFX - FX > DYD Aurora canopy prices?

Does anyone know the price range of the DYD Aurora canopies? I noticed there are three styles: FAI, technical/radical, anything goes. I assume the price goes up with each one.

Thanks,
Medflight

I heard around $200 for paint. I got to see his paint work on a racing helmet he did back a few fun flies ago, and his work is amazing!

He is doing an amazing job. Compared with DYD the rest of the canopies look like amateur work but the prices are salty.

I have been crunching numbers this week. The current price structure was based on the red canopy (Marcus Kim's) and the Szabo brothers canopies. For $230/285 WC you get one of the best paint jobs available on the market. With that being said, we are not getting the response we had hoped for.

So, if we were able to offer the Szabo's canopies (or something like it) with a black windshield area (no fade) and come in at $200/249.95 WC. Would that bring more Avant customer orders to DYD?

Let me know.

The UK customers are in a bit of a hard place, due to the exchange rate and shipping, which is a bummer because about 50% of our inquiries are from the UK, and when we give them the quote, we seldom hear back from them. The best thing to do is for a few customers to place orders together to reduce shipping costs.

I will be in the canopy painting business full time starting September 15th. This should reduce turn time to under a month and we are working on a new price structure that will get a DYD canopy in the hands of more pilots.

Enjoy your weekend, Dave

Just for clarification, Technical/radical would be like the Szabos or Marcus kim's. Whild/anything goes you would get something more like waving checkers, skull's and so on. The price is the same, but the design is more like something you see on a custom bike.

Hope that helps, Dave

Dave, have you considered offering a basic all solid color w/black windshield area canopy (no fades, no stipes, no bling)? Or is this the $200/$249.95 WC option mentioned above?

DYD is in the business of producing cutting edge graphic designes on heli canopies. Our goal is to become the standard that all other heli paint jobs are jugded by. This is what Troy Lee Designs has done in the racing helment business, basically evey professional Indy Car and Motocross rider/driver is sporting a TLD paint job on race day. Unfortunatly, It dose not benefit us to paint a solid color on a canopy. If thats what you wanted, We would probably do it for you, but we would leave our DYD decal off. I know that sounds arrogant, but the problem that we run into from a marketing stand point is if we start banging out one color canopies, there would be no product differerentiation between us and the other canopy painters. The goal is for our canopies to stand out, and we do charge at the higher end of the price scale for our work but you get more for your money as well. Trust me, I have put alot of thought into this subject. The temptation is to just bang out 30 of these things with a neon yellow and orange fades and have them ready when people call. but thats just not what we entered this market to do. We want to be nunber 2 or 3 in volume, but the absolute best in quality!

email me throught the web site, and lets see if we can help you.

Going flying! Dave

Thanks, Dave. I completely understand. There is nothing wrong with following your passion. That's what life is all about. I was simply trying provide some constructive feedback on your comment above "we are not getting the response we had hoped for."

I don't know much about TLD or the racing circuit, but would it be fair to say that every professional Indy Car/Motocross racer has 100%+ sponsorship? I don't believe there is anywhere near that level of sponsorship in R/C helicopters.

Again, no offense, your work is certainly top notch, but I'm just not sure there's a lot market for canopies in the $250+ price range. Again, I could be wrong, but it's just my personal opinion.

Your absolutly correct. $250.00 is high. We are trying to find the balance between product difference while at the same time not pricing our self's out of the the market. Its is very tough. The biggest chalenge at the moment is lack of access to canopies for a decent price that will not crack and don't require a ton of prep work. Avant canopies are good and Augosto has made sure I have them on hand, Trex 600 canopies are good but not available at the moment. Other canopy painters have pulled molds off of the manufacturers canopies so they can make there own, giving them a competitive advantage. We don't want to do that, and there for must pass the dealer cost of the canopy on to the customer. I am woking feverishly to solve this problem with out busting copy right laws on products.

anyway, I appreciate everybody's feed back.

Cheers Dave

Dave, I was just wondering if you are painting other canopies. Like synergy's and stratus. I have a synergy on the way and am looking for a paint job. I have a costume scheme and was wondering if you would be interested to do it? Drop me a pm if you are and we can talk.

Thanks for the pricing information. For an Aurora, I can see me shelling out the $250+ for the canopy. Personally, I would want the fade and a waving flag, even if it cost a little more. No way would I do it for my Evo 90 or Sceadu. IMO the Aurora will be THE top shelf helicopter and deserves a quality painted canopy. A DYD canopy probably won't be my "every day" canopy but I wouldn't be afraid to fly with it.

I haven't ordered one yet because it will probably be a few months before I order an Aurora (if they are available). Winter is comming and time for flying is going to be less. If I can have one flyable by next spring, I'll be happy.

The reason I asked about pricing is because I talked to someone from Canada who is painting canopies and their top end was $450+. It was good work but is a little out of my range. I didn't want to end up placing an order from DYD and have a big surprise when it came time to pay for it.

In the hyper competitive retail hobby world $250.00 sounds like a lot of money. Go to west coast choppers or some place like that, they won't turn there compressor on for less than 3K. TroyLee gets $1700 to do a helmet. Has any body got a quote to fix a door ding latly? The enviromental laws have jacked up the price of the paint and hardedners making it very tough to stay in business in California. Something tells me that Canada is the same. We are trying to offer a product that is very high end at heli vendor prices.

We want to be the "Vermont Teddy Bears" of the RCheli world.

Cheers Gents, I hope you all went flying today. Burned off three with the R50 myself!
