| The crown gear - bevel gear arrangment is dependent on having the crown gear rigid enough not to flex down away from the pinion gear as the original Furys and Vigors could do, and it requires very careful shimming of the main shaft to get the gear mesh tight enough. Additionally, if the collars holding the main shaft move and allow up-down play in the mast the crown gear arrangement will either loosen the mesh or tighten the mesh, neither of which is good.
The Hirobo/Raptor 90 and now Aurora arrangement allows the mesh between the main tail drive gear and the pinion gear to be set by the designer via sideframe hole position which translates into much less time needed to build properly and no worry about performance.
Think about how one never hears of Hirobos or Raptor 90s having tail issues, but over the years how many tail issues have appeared for Furys, Vigor, Predators, etc.
There are very few new ideas in models any more. Just compilations of previous items. Augusto took the best ideas out there and put them all together.
