e-Minicopter Joker > Maxi Joker 2 setup recommendation

This will be an AP ship lifting about 5-6 lbs of equipment. I need recommendation/comments for the following:

1) main blades - MS Composites 800mm - yes/no? Other brand, possibly semi-symetrical?
2) tail blades - carbon or plastic? I think I've read somewhere that plastic blades will cause less stress on tail assembly.
3) I'm looking for 10s lipo setup. I'd like to see 10 mins flights with 30-40% mins reserve. How much battery space do I have on MJ2? I'd like to stay away frm EVO20 since discharging them on more than 10C shortnets their life-cycle according to manufacturer. I was thinking two TP 5s4p 8000 (12"/1.97"/1.14" 27oz each) or two TP 5s4p 5300 (6.77"/2.64"/0.94" ~20oz each).
4) ESC - Kontronic 55
5) No BEC. Two 3300 RX packs in parallel.
6) Actro 32-4
7) 45degree tail extension - is anyone using this - any issues that I should be aware of?
8) Gyro 401 w/ 9254
9) servos 9252

Thank you

Hi!

1) Why not Joker original Maxi blades?

2) I have SAB carbon blades. They are lighter than plastic blades, don`t know about the stress they cause. I have always used carbon blades.

3) I have 12S3P setup. 7500 mAh gives me 20 minutes of flight time and then LiPoGuard starts blinking. 20 minutes of flight, not hovering.

4) Never used the 55 but I think you can`t go 11S or 12S in the future . Also check http://runryder.com/helicopter/t275082p1/. If you are shure that you`ll stay on 10S then it is OK.

5) I have Fromeco LiIo receiver battery with 5V regulator.

6) Joker-USA recommends 24-5 for Maxi Joker.
24-4 and 32-3 for acrobatic use.

7) Not enough pros especially when you have the camera mount underneath the heli. I wanted the extension too but they recommended not to use it.

8) Same here, servo is 9253

9) Same here

For an indication of how many mah this setup will need, here are some info with a very similar setup:

MJ2, stock main blades, carbon tailblades from minicopter, actro 32-4, kontronic 55-10-32, gy401 + S9254, 3xs9252.
Payload is 2,375 kg = 5,23 lbs (mount+camera)

When flying for AP, with a lot of hovering, conso is between 342mA to 355mA/minute.

So with my 3s1p 3700mah I can make 8'30'' flights, and put back 2700-3000 mah.

Nico,

Thanks for the reply. It turns out that I will be able to get stock main blades, so my setup will be exactly same as yours.

What brand of batteries do you use? Is that 10S?
Also what pinion size?

Thanks

Kristjan,

I see your point of going 12S especially since market for 6s batteries is opening up (due to TREX600 and such) and I hope to see prices going down.
As a matter of fact, TP is having a special 6s2p 4200 for $199.

I wish I can get some feedback on that new Actronic 120 (120A 50V)

What pinion size you use with 12S?

Thanks

I'm using flightpower 10s1p 3700mah, and I would like to purchase one or 2 future packs with a little bit more capacity. Why not 10s1p 5000 mah that are anouced soon? It could give 12-13 minutes with a very good security of not damaging pack with overdischarges, and get longtime for them.

I have a 17T pinion from minicopter to fit the 32-4.

8 minutes flights are about what I'm looking for. In that case I'd rather opt for mutiple 3700 vs something of higher capacity/price.
I'll probably go with two 3700 5s in series in order to use cheaper 5s chargers.

What is your head speed with 17T?

you don't need to use the 45 degree tail on the mj2. not needed. I was using the pletti, with a schulze 40.160, on 12s, 5280mah packs, and I could get 10 minutes, with about 20 percent reserve. I'm switching it up to a actro 32-4, and then likely a 6600mah, 12s evo pack which should give me amazing performance, especially considering I have something like 10 lbs of weight being carried.

I'm running a 32-4 on 10s4p 8000, with hcs pro mount getting 12-13 minutes with plenty reserve. I have the maxi 1 with the kick tail but I would opt not to have it given the choice, one less thing to worry about but it does look cool. Awesome machines, I have 2, planning on upgrading to M2 by end of summer. I have found more airtime is better, not having to worry about batts to get all the shots. My thoughts

Is anyone considering using those gone-$199-cheap TP4200 6s2p in series?

Bungee - I think I read in one of posts that you use Actronic ESC. How does it perform? There were some issues with those ESC couple years ago. People had to spool up by hand. Is that still the case? There is apparantly new just-released Actornic 120 for $399. Wonder if I should send my Kontronic 55 back.

rroback - Are you staying with same ESC, and also what pinion you plan to use with 32-4 on 12s?

Thanks guys

About 5-6 lbs load, howering/forward flight for 5 mins (time counting from the moment it spools up), I used bit under 2000 mAh from 10S3700 battery. Actro 32-4, Jazz 55, 800mm semis.

25-27 amp draw in hover with (18lbs) the 32-4 you will drop a couple amps with the 24-5, with Vicks 810's my educated guess.

Stay away from the 45 on the tail

flyboy. Do you have any concrete reason for mentioning to stay away from the TT other than the added mechanics and friction (one more thing to go wrong theory)?

As in have there been any known failures or crashed due to the TT?

Also, you mention 18lbs. Is that 18lbs of payload??

Thanks,
Serge

There have been no issues with the 45 degree tail, but it has been discontinued on the Maxis now.

I'm now using a power jazz, 32-4, and I've got a range of 12s packs, a 5k mah tp extreme pack, a 5k, 20c tanic packs, and a couple 5280, older tanic packs. With the newer pack the headspeed is way up, I've got to retach, but it seems almost like a 150+rpm difference... The powerjazz is the way to go. I've been flying for about 8 minutes using about 3300mah, but my flying weight is near 23-24lbs..I'm using the smallest pinion I could get... 14t?

So is running the Flightpower 6s evo 20 4900's a good match or is there some headspeed issues with using newer cells and/or 12s?

I like running 12s. everything is always cold to the touch. What motor do you want to run? I want to re-test the big pletti, with smaller pinions, but I sold mine a long time ago.
