Yes.I've seen backwards inverted drags before.

how did they start, was everyone just in a backwards hover at the same height, or were they all on the ground and had to flip it or something

I want to try this!

You start skids on the ground and when the signal goes off you flip it inverted right off the deck and away you go.

double the technique...
interesting low factor at the end of the drag as well.

I have seen several inverted drag racings however they have been inverted tail first... I would like to see inverted nose first.

Furyflyer01, how does it sound like a recipe for disaster especially if all are aware of it? Just because you can't, doesn't mean others can't! I would deffinately be all in for this.. I would assume the "quickest" route would be nose in on the launch line, then pull over and go. That would be for nose first, then for fun we would do em backwards hehe. No different than a push over take off or fwd flipping take off, of which I do almost every flight. This would be cool and yes of course there will be a few mistakes on the way but hey the pucker factor is all part of it.

Wouldn't there be a speed advantage in starting tail first, flipping over and completing the race inverted nose first ?

Inverted drag races

I have done inverted backwards (tail first) drag races. They are quit fun and exciting, to say the least.

1. heli on the ground facing forward, tail closest to the pilot.
2. get into idle up and have the rpm's screaming.
3. wait for the caller to start the race.
4. give full collective and full forward elevator instantly.
5. when the heli gets inverted, back off the elevator, but transition to negative pitch and keep the pedal to the metal. The tail must stay down slightly while flying tail first inverted.
6. keep the correction inputs to a minimum.
7. try to prevent your shaking hands from transmitting nervous commands to the heli.
8. at the end of the race, pull back on the elevator to make the heli shoot straight up with all that speed tail first.
9. do a piro stall turn.
10. fly back to the starting line for another run.

steps

Thought I should share the step I took to gain the needed skills.

1. learn to hover inverted nose in.
2. learn to perform flips close to the ground.
3. learn to hover below waist level or ankle level inverted nose in.
4. learn to fly away backwards inverted.
5. practice launching while in idle up.
6. practice launching in idle up and flip over to inverted during the launch and stopping in a nose in inverted hover.
7. practice #6 but fly away at high altitude.
8. put all the pieces together and practice high.
9. slowly bring everything back to the deck and practice with medium speed.
10. no holding back, just go for it after giving the heli a really good pit crew inspection.

Any particular blade type work better than others?

Never had to do step #11 due to inverted drag racing. Selecting the wrong model, reversing my pitch servo, not initializing my gyro, dumb thumb autos, Yes, yes, yes.... but not from drag racing.

I prefer SAB blades, but would not opt for the Radix. I prefer blades I can see (white) when doing stuff close to the dirt.

stiff head dampening is a plus

The most visible blades I've used are the Maniacs which I also feel offer better 'air grabbing' performance than the SABs, probably due to a wider chord.

What would you guys recommend for my roxxter 55? I need some 600 blades but the only ones I have considered so far are V-blades, they do have those funny white holograph stickers on em now for visibility, but the rest is black

MY personal opinion...

I never liked V-blades, as I thought they were suffered from too much drag. SAB were always quieter, smoother, and more efficient. The new radix blades are my favorites right now.
