I've cut my fan shroud to ft my OS91SZH and that was no problem. But when I come to put the engine in the frames, the fan is scraping against the fan shroud.

I know that people have said you need to dremel the front shroud fixing on the frames slightly to get to fit correctly. But that side of things seems ok to me, the shroud is level. It just seems to me that the shroud needs pushing out slightly to allow for the fan

Thoughts please, as it is holding up my build

I had to cut the fins by about 1mm. My fan was a little too thick to fit in the fan shroud.

Fitting the fan shroud. I saw the master putting mine in. He used a screw driver holding on the carb and placing pressure while lose and tight the screws holding the shroud, thus you can find where it's hitting and get it to fit with out dremeling.

Just had to cut mine around the manifold for the Hatori 938 pipe and a little on the other side of the engine head.
Rubs very slightly on the fan but should be OK once I fully adjust it as it's a close fit which is good.

not really considering there are alot of motor pipe combos and you really cant make it fit them all. besides it only takes about 2 minutes. why dont you go fly your blade and leave the real helis to us.

Fan Shroud

Hi Guys

having fitted the fan shroud to my OS91SZH it looks like it will need to be cut slightly as it it is also too tight. Also, the fan scrapes inside the shroud. Does this problem go once the engine is fitted to the frame as I have not yet done this?

Also, although not mentioned in the build manual, is bearing lock needed when installing the bearings in the plastic blocks?

Cheers

I had no problem getting the fan not to rub and shroud clearance around the YS91 is excellent. Once I installed the motor into the frames the fan was easy to position so it didn't touch the shroud. Until you lock parts down the fan and shroud will rub as there is very little clearance between the two.

blade3d, check out the fan shrouds on other helis and ask how much modification is required to get them to work! My older machine required a lot of modification to get the carb and head to not touch the shroud.

As I said with I didn't need to modify the N9 shroud at all. It looks like consideration for larger header of the Hatoris (SB16) have been incorporated into the design of the Shroud as well. In my opinion this kit has so many of these type of considerations that I'm even more impressed now that I'm building it.

Just-Trex, I don't think you need to lock the bearings into the blocks. They have a tight fit.

Fan Shroud

For Chuckie

Thanks for your help, I will install the engine in the frame this evening and adjust the shroud as you say. There seems to be very little clearance as you say.

I may need to trim the shroud slightly as the OS head touches the shroud. Not major.

cheers.
