How are people dealing with the synergy circlips on the washout arms?

Is there a technique to fitting them? Any tips

I hear that unlike normal circlips which are liable to jump off your build table and disappear into the carpet, the Synergy clips are liable to jump off and travel through your ceiling.

Strong, tough little buggers, aren't going to come off once on that's sure

Snap Ring pliers

I am going to try a pair of small snap ring pliers and see how that goes.

Doubt you will find any snap ring pliers that will be any use, these are very small clips.

The method used by Simon, is the way to go. It seems to be the best method to date. But any further suggestions, let us all know.

It's one of them, once you know how it's done, it really isn't to bad a job. Just be deliberate and don't rush it, it could get abit frustrating if you try to rush.

My kits had a few spares, just incase a few go ping !!

You can get snap ring pliers with a notched tip that make short work of those. I used them on another helicopter I built that uses the same thing. I think it was an Extreme. They are made for those tiny clips. The notched tips catch the little prongs of the clip

My snap ring pliers are pretty small, but if I have to I will file them down until they fit the clips. I really don't use them anymore, so if I have file them I think I will. I will let you know. I do like Simon's method also. I am 20th on the list @ Ricks so hopefully I will get the kit next week. Take it easy.

Just got back from 3D masters, great weekend!

Jason Krause has said that the next batch of Synergys will be reverting to circlips and pins similar to the Raptor. A kit to replace the current circlips and pins will be made available

I have used the hole in the wood block method mentioned for years on MA helicopters, simple and effective.

just did the washout circlips and the tail slider also. i just put them on the block of wood like Bobj explained but i found it worked better for me not to drill a hold and just pound them in, only 1 or 2 hits and they are on. broke a few to start with but you get extra in the kit so all is well.

I did the same. Just lay them on a block of wood with no hole and bang the pin into them.

it's amazing this to me, no one except me has fan problems and yet, i had ZERO issues with the clips in the kit. i lost zero of them and they all went on easier than my experience with circlips. just put them in a slightly open vice and tap them with a hammer lightly. job done.

cheers

It's a great response to an issue some people have which has to be admired. The current circlips are probably hard to use but effective in the job they do. They can be fitted easy enough if you make a wee tool for the job. A block of wood with a hole slightly bigger (hardwood not pine) that the hole in the circlip with a smaller hole down the bottom to accept he pin you are going to tap through. I make this type of tools with Hirobo tail shafts to remove the pin through the belt drive gear. Different type of tool but easy to make. A vice is a bit agricultural for the job. It's amazing how difficult or easy these jobs can be done with a little thought and time.

But some have expressed they don't like them or can't use them so the company has taken that on board and decided to change them for the masses. Thats an excellent response. At least I reckon it is.
