I can't believe it happened. I went to the flying field today (7-25-06) and arrived around 1 or so. There was one guy there mowing the field and I chatted with him but didn't get my stuff out of the truck right away. I asked where the rest of the mowing crew were at today. He called the one guy and then within 30 or so minutes the other guy showed up. I flew a couple of tanks and went back and forth to my truck several times for water and some other things. Then other flyers started to show up and it seemed like a steady stream(a few) of people coming and going.

We had a group of about 8 Japanese exchange students who were passing by and decided to stop to watch. They left and then a few more flyers showed up.

At around 5 or so I said to the other guy with a heli that I was going to my truck to get my charger. I went to the passenger seat and my black bag with the charger wasn't there. I thought that was strange and maybe I put in the back of my truck for some reason. I went back and checked and it wasn't there. I then went back to the front seat and sure as S#$% a bunch of stuff was missing. I mean, camcorder, digital camera, fanny pack with my palm pilot and passport and some cash. I then went around to the drivers side and thought maybe somebody was playing a sick joke. I looked behind my seat and said "Oh s*#$" my tool box. It had 10 years of accumulated tools in it.

I sometimes lock my truck at the field if I'm the only one there because obviously I can't watch it and fly. But there were other flyers there all day. They are all really nice people. I was hardly more than 75 to 100 feet away from my truck from 1 PM to 5 PM.

I guess somebody just pulled in the field and parked close by and walked over and loaded up.

I am really still in shock that someone would do this. I sometimes would lock my truck and think of myself as being a butt head for not trusting others. I guess I can't really trust some.

If anyone in the Seattle area sees a gray rubber maid tool box with every RC tool known to man then it's probably mine.

Other people joke that they don't have to bring their tools when I come to a fun fly. Well guys it looks like I'll be borrowing some tools next week.

Man, that is unfortunate... :-(

Which field was this? Sucks to have this happen in a Washington field.

At marymoore, I get paranoid too- there's always some strange guys waiting in their cars the corner of hte parking lot watching the flying.

Jeff,
That really SUCKS!
My tool box is your tool box next weekend bud.
I might not have every tool known to man, but I bet I have enough to fix a Raptor.
That is a screwdriver and a 3mm right?

I will keep my eyes out.

I always had a creepy feeling about stuff at your field.
That upper lot seems to attract a bunch of "interesting" folks at times.

Hope you don't have to head out of the US anytime soon.
Comb the pawn shops and E-bay. I am sure your stuff will turn up there. Sounds like somebody that was just looking for a fast buck.
The really sad thing is I bet your passport is laying in a ditch along the road somewhere. They probably tossed it when they found it wasn't a check book.

Andy,

This was at the RAMS field South of Auburn and North of Sumner. I think you were at our FF last year or the year before. Yes it really does stink.

Jason,

I know what you mean about the people in the upper parking lot. We get some interesting ones.

I spent the day getting new work ID and airport ID. Tomorrow I'll work on my passport. It's also strange that I even brought this stuff to the field with me, 99% of the time I don't have it.

My friend thinks it has to be someone that was flying at the field. I don't really want to think about that idea. I really enjoy the people I meet in RC and everyone is extra helpful in many ways.

I am hoping that somehow my insurance will cover it but I doubt it.

Thanks for the offer of tools. I will have to take you up on it.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I was kidded by members at my field about locking my car after taking out what I needed. I fly electric and usually have several hundred dollars worth of Lipos with me plus whatever I brought to fly that day. With so many schmucks on the loose I never take chances. I hope you have some kind of insurance.

Got all my paperwork on my IDs sorted out today. Now I'm working on my claim with the insurance. Not sure how good it's going to be but so far they have been great to deal with.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.
