I am having trouble getting my Bell 222 30 size dialed in. I am using an OS 32 SXH with a scale muffler. Anyone else running this setup that can share their pitch and throttle curves...Also, any expo or gyro setups for this ship. I am running the 401/9253 setup on the tail and a JR 8103....thanks, Bill

I hope this helps !!

on my Hawk SE V2 and my Falcon V2 I found that they flew their smoothest at 4 & 3/4 degrees at mid stick and 10 degrees at full stick,,, and I found on my Hawk for just flying around that the Fun Key's (F/G) blades flew smoother than the Hurricanes, but the Fun Key's did pitch-up at faster flight speeds,,,

of course 4 & 3/4 degrees at mid stick will give you a higher head speed, and 10 degrees at full stick puts more of a load on the motor/transmission to help smooth her out,,,

this is how my Falcon is set up now, she is so smooth set up like this !!

as for the throttle curve, just smooth it out...

401 setup

I use an 8103 and a 401 on my Falcon, and I know that theirs a lot of guys out there putting parts from other helis on their Hawks and Falcons tails, but my Falcon pirouettes very very fast and the tail is completely stock, it's all in the 401's setup !!

I would imagine that for scale flying you are going to use the rudders dual rate switch,, slower pirouettes for switch position 0 and faster for switch position 1...

so when you flick your rudders dual rate switch all you need to change is the Expo,
I see now reason to use dual rates on the tail,,, why?, because you need full tail pitch to pull your tail into a strong wind when hovering, or to pull your tail around as your flying,,, so use your rudders Expo to speed-up and slow-down your pirouettes,

first set your travel limit on the top of your 401 low (like 60%) "for no binding",,,

now set your rudder's ATV (servo travel adjustments) to 100%,,,

now set "both" rudder's dual rates (switch position 0 and switch position 1) to100% ,,, now go back and readjust your travel limit on the top of your 401 for maxim tail pitch without binding (full stick left, full stick right),,,

for Expo,,,
(now to start with) in switch position 0 for hovering set your rudder's Expo at +70%, for switch position 1 set your Expo at +30%,,,

now as you fly, land and adjust both your rudders Expo (up or down)(switch position 0 and position 1) to the point where your happy with your tails authority,,,

and,,,
for you rudders servo, use the long servo horn with the ball at the end, so your sensitivity will be set somewhere around 55% !!

the rudders Expo on my falcon is set at +50 for hovering and -20 for faster perorates...

Email me if you need to ask me anything !!

cyclic ATV, curves and more on the tail

I forgot to say, if your tail drifts with the 401, adjust the rudder linkage to get it to hover straight...

I have all (all) my cyclic dual rates set at 100%, then I use the ATV (servo travel adjust) to stop the swashplate and linkages from binding (aileron ATV left & right set at 105%, elevator ATV down 92% up 105% ), then like my tail I use Expo only on my cyclic rate switches,,, so,,, if my aileron switch is in position 0 for hovering and flying slow my dual rate is 100% and my Expo is -45%, and in switch in position 1 my dual rate is still 100% but my Expo is -10% for tight rolls,,,

I found out the hard-way that my ATV on the throttle curve and pitch curve should be set at 100%,,,
my pitch and throttle curves were set at 100%, I was using my ATV to set the pitch and throttle limits I needed, after flying like this for 3 months my friend flew my heli and he said something was wrong, so I read my radio's manual again, called Horizon, and got it right, now my pitch & throttle ATV are set at 100% !!

I hope we get more input on this from other Century owners !!

Before doing 60 size scalers I did the 30 size ships. On pitch I would reccomend +2, +3 1/2, +4-5, +7, +9 1/2. I wouldn't use any negative pitch at all since the bird weight will help it come down and not get caught "floating" in windy situations. (then again, I choose not to fly the scalers on windy days) Too much pitch at the top, especially when power is needed can bog the motor down severly. I found this out the hard way. I was pulling my Ranger through a turn back into the wind and was advancing the throttle trying to get some altitude and the motor puckered out and faded, it never died but it might as well have.

It was a beautiful crash. Kind of a chilly day..........anyway, when she hit the ground a blade bowed and struck the boom. The back 1/3 third of the body looked it turned into orange dust (painted in mountain rescue colors) The culprit was I had too much pitch and when I called on the engine for power it couldn't deliver due to being overloaded.

Thanks for the great info, especially about the positive pitch only....It does seem to be heavy and twitchy....I need to dial in some expo and readjust my pitch curves...Bill
