Well I ain't one of the better pilots here, but I'll give it a shot.
1. Hover tail in
2. Pull back elevator to start a backflip ('tic')
3. Add negative collective to stop it from falling backwards to the ground and begin reversing the heli's momentum
4. Before it gets to the full inverted position add forward elevator (this is the 'toc' part) to flip it forwards
5. Now add positive collective to stop it from falling forwards
6. Go to step 2, lather, rinse, and repeat

That is a pretty good description of how to do a Tic Toc, however doing them over the tail is harder that doing them over the nose. If you think about it, you're shifting the total weight of the pod vs. the weight of the tail. The stick inputs are similar, just arranged differently. I enjoy doing sideways Tic Tocs and Piro Tic Tocs they can get crazy. Just becareful that you tic when you need to tic and toc when you need to toc vs. ticking when you should of tocked....errr somethin like that...they can be tricky to learn but after you learn them you'll love doing them.

But if you have the helo balance under the main shaft that should not matter

True!

But you have the drag of the pod and canopy vs. the boom and tail. In my experience the helicopter likes doing them over the nose more than over the tail.

I think your brain likes it better one way than the other. I''m wired the other way around, I can do them over the tail without much trouble, but nose-down I lose it pretty fast. I don't think the heli cares one way or the other.

I have had this conversation with Alan Szabo Jr. as well. As a matter of fact I never realized it before he brought it to my attn last year in Vegas. I can do them over the tail, over the nose, sideways, piro tictoc doesn't matter. It is a good conversation though just to see what the other pilots out there doing these manuvers think about it. I was just metioning something that I noticed, it is swinging the tail which has less drag vs. the pod which has more drag than the tail. Just my opinion thats all. I don't claim myself as a level 7 pilot, however I can do most of the manuvers in the level 7 bracket. Just a thought......

Whoa

You guys are way over thinking this one. The heli rotates about the center of gravity no matter what the orientation. It is your visual perception that you are having trouble with. After you do a hundred thousand of them or so, you will wonder why you had problems with them in the begining. There is no Vodo here.
