Avant Aurora - EFX - FX > About those crash costs...

I am thinking about the new Aurora as the next purchase, and I glanced at the CX web ste and noticed the $65 price per side frame for the EFX. The aluminum parts were prised handsomly as well.

My initial impression is that this heli is higher than the average .90 cost for repair under similar crashes. For those that enjoyed the thrill of crashing an EFX, will you share the costs for repair?

Thanks in advance.

Usually the frames survive but I was unlucky enough to crash land on rock hard soil & smashed the frames under the tank.

Let's say this is the average crash (I could be wrong);

Main shaft $27
Hirobo spindle $10
Hirobo flybar $10
Boom $15
Boom supports $15
Landing gear set $30

Total $107

A few more things might be broken too.

Doesn't include canopy ($70 + paint job) or blades (around $120)

Anyone, please correct the prices, ta.

My crash cost me $500 including new frames, various bits, blades, canopy. At least the boom was untouched!

in general, you won't break the frames unless you REALLY
smack it very very hard.

there are a couple of very simple precautions I used on my build
to eliminate even those possibilities.

The canopy studs are mounted using plastic M3 screws and the
mechanical plate is also mounted using plastic screws. I try
to keep heavy things off the 'tongue' so it doesnt act as a
cantilever but the plate is sort of designed to fracture anyway.

other than that, it's a very narrow, incredibly rigid CF frame
and nothing will break.

also, honestly, it's not that much $$$ for what it is and the
extremely low parts count compensates.

and you're playing in the big leagues.

UM, Back at the LA Fun fly RAYDOG stuffed two avants, both were about 200$ repairs mainly blades, spinfle, main, and flybar. The Heli held up VERY WELL. I have been lucky and have yet to crash my Avant FX. Knock on wood.

My EFX went in pretty hard on the head and one of my canopy mounts had slightly fractured the area surrounding the canopy mount. Not bad but something to look out for. I need to intentionally weaken the mounting bolts.

Actually everything Avant related held up really well. I did need a new main shaft which cost me 26$ which is cheaper than the Hirobo hardend main shaft. I also replaced the MS bearings with some stock Hirobo bearing since you cannot buy them seperatly yet from CX.

I picked a hell of a day to quit drinking

z11355, good ideas, I may do the same. And I agree, it is the big leagues after all.

Thank you to everyone for your input.
