Avant Aurora - EFX - FX > Avant Programmable Head setup

It took a solid 2 weeks of everyday flying to tweak the Tempest head to my liking a few years back. There were lots of variables (b/h ratios, delta, many dampener permutations, blades, paddles, and flybar weight) - the CX head seems to have an even greater range of settings (this is a good thing).

I'd like to hear from you guys who've been flying this head for a while what some of the most popular settings are, including blade, paddle and flybar weight choices. I'm looking for a real good starting point.

I'd also like to know the configuration of the Avant flown by Alan at Huntsville.

Thanks,
- Rob

I don't know about "popular" but my settings are:
blades 710 radix (changing out to new 690 v's)
OEM paddles with lead weights(hirobo)
no flybar wts as of yet.
cx 555mm flybar
oem 60 duro o-rings
The settings that I have on the head are the what Augusto recommended. I think it's set-up as "active" I haven't tried it with the brass weights or flybar weights yet. I also see that Innivation(sp) has dampners for the Avant head.

Hey Bob.

I am using the outer most hole on the swash side, and the middle hole on the flybar side of the mixers. 555 flybar, 25 gram SAB flybar paddles, 172 g SAB #0223 blades. The delta is just a bit on the opposite side (non-correcting). The dampening is rather stiff and it will wobble at about 1475 rpm head speed. I do use a 7mm ball on the swash side of the mixer rather than the 3mm ball.

I have toned down the mixes some to smooth things out a bit. As they are, they are faster than anything I have had to date. I am running 1930 head speed too, that helps.

Thanks guys, this is exactly the kind of info I wanted.

As with the Tempest head I suspect that many have used one of the five suggested configs as starting points and then made changes to achieve the desired feel.

Good stuff, keep it coming.

1) Delta setting 7. Haven't experimented yet.
2) Both balls on mixing arms all the way to left to stabilize more
3) No silicone tube in middle, too hard to install & stiff.
4) Added a 0.1mm shim inbetween stock 60 duro o-rings & grips to make up for no tube (too soft w/o 0.1mm shim. I tried 0.4, 0.3mm etc, all wobbled in 1850rpm idle-up.
5) 19g 95mm V-Paddles & 555mm flybar.
6) 178g? 710mm Radix.
7) 7 deg cyclic & 10 deg pitch. About to try 11 degs.
8) YS91, SB-18FH & RevMax.

Trying to get it as stable as possible while keeping a good cyclic speed. Works well.
