new

hi new at rr. But my husband always wanted a helicopter or plane. So my dauther and me bought him a used cen. hawk 3,os 37,550 main blades.Just watching the child like grins and how much he was enjoying learning how these things work and go together.Had me exicted for him.And after watching him I wanted to try.But was afraid of crashing his.And the one and only time I tried i almost did.But that wasn"t the problem. The prices scared me.the other heli guys was not as nice as the seemed over the phone. But the more i get around the I see why One crash a few hundred dollars. But my husband offered to buy me a heli or plane. I bought a plane. But i seem to like any rc toy and anything that flies. And later maybe try the heli again. But what realy help me was being out at the feild and talking and cutting up with the others club guys. The heli and plane guys. They seemed more full of it and less stressed out.So try to just get your wifes and girlfreind to meet some of the guys and to laugh and cut up some.Maybe she can see were it could be fun.

Actually, my wife converted me
I have been an RC enthousiast for many years, first boats, than cars and the last couple of years ; airplanes. I considered helis about 10 years ago, but due to the high costs (at the time) I declined.
However, last year in november I was sick and couldn't leave the house so to pass the time I was working on a static scale model of an S-7 Schnellboot and I sent my wife to the hobbyshop to get some paint, when she came home, she had bought a coaxial heli, and after toying with it a couple of hours, she decided to get back to the shop to get an FP heli.
Needless to say, we were both hooked to the heli addiction from that moment on.
At the moment, my wife has a Caliber 30 on order, while I wait for my T-Rex 450

I am trying to convert myself if that's possible! My boyfriend has been flying helicopters for at least the 2 years we have known eachother and I didnt really get interested in wanting to fly until recently within the last 6 months. I think the thing that might be stopping me the most is I dont want him to think I am just taking over his hobby. I dont know if thats possible or not because he absolutely loves his hobby. I would just like to see if its something I can really do or not. I am considering getting a Blade of some sort, but I am not really sure what would be best for a complete beginner like me.

Hello Katrina,
Good for you ,this is a great hobby that has a lot of fun to it. I think you should learn on your boyfriends Raptor50 if that is at all possible. A blade cp is very twitchy and you will have your hands full where as the bigger Raptor is much more stable. I learned on those cheap e-bay specials and by myself with the help of RR ,it wasn't pretty but I did it. I liked the blade cp and owned a few but my Raptor and Trex SE are my favorites.

Hi Katrina,

Welcome first!!

I'm in a quandry to recommend a beginner bird. I learned on a Hummingbird FP, mostly indoors, mostly on my own.

Small birds are very twitchy and difficult to fly, even on a good day. If you have a sim and a 50 size bird available.... I would agree with Rogersresort and go for that. You should have an instructor (boyfriend) to help.

The biggest help, for me, was getting disciplined on the sim. I had a hard time being disciplined. I just was winging the bird around etc. Once I concentrated on hover, side-in, and nose-in, my flying really took off (sorry for the pun).

Let us know what you wind up doing, okay?

Cheers,
Leslie

When my husband first started the hobby he was 16, then he droped it because of school and work. Then when he picked it up again once we were married, I use to go down and help him build and go to the field with him. But when I wanted to go to the meeting he said there is no other females there, just stay home. Well that pissed me off. I started to go to the field more and more. Then we moved and we found a new field. There were other females there. Guys get your wives into it. You will find that we get into the hobby more. I have been flying heli's for 5+ years now, I started on planes but could never land the thing. So I saw the heli's and there was another female heli pilot. I wanted a Heli. That's how I got my husband into Heli's..... Know there is 4 of us that fly together all the time, 2 husbands 2 wives. Every new field I go to I encourage every wife or girlfriend to fly.

Girls you will find that you will enjoy the going out to the field a lot more if your not just there to watch the kid, feed the husbands and clean up the planes at the end of the day.
