Joining up

Just wanted to chime in and note I just joined AMA and the HCAM this morning. It did not take long at all. AMA is online and easy. HCAM was downloaded and went to the mail; although I e-mailed the Treasurer and noted that I was sending the info and payment.

I do believe that joining the club is a good way to promote change; unlike the previous poster. That is how any change in any group, whether it be political, business, club, etc. is done. The people who want change need to step up and take part in the operation of the actual business, so to speak. What the heck is wrong with heli pilots joining the club -- thats what the damn thing is for -- pilots who enjoy the hobby. If we join up, and conduct ourselves professionally at the meetings, then we will all be forced to learn to work together.

Can we move this to a new thread? Or maybe I should start a new one specifically for up coming events?

Hey Jess,
I can do that, guess just label it something like HCAM calling all Cen-Tex heli pilots?? I'll go do that now.

John,
Please post a link here to your new thread. That way I don't have to search for it.

Thanks,
Joe

Yes maybe time to move to a new thread --- this one has turned pilots against each other. That previous poster may have asked the wrong questions but the issue was the club and meet handling??? No reason to run him or others off.

QUESTION: can someone suggest a good battery checker for transmitter and receiver gear??

Duster,
It wasn't "questions" that were the problem but that's neither here nor there, the problem is solved.

As for a battery checker, I ended up buying the Duralite tester. You do want one that will put a load on your pack and the Duralite will put a .5 , 1 & 1.5 amp load on the pack. Ricks has it, I think it runs around $40 or so.

I understand that the Duralite one is very nice. However, if you already have a voltmeter, you can do something similar by just putting a resistive load on the connector.

For example, I once made up a pigtail to connect my Tx or Rx pack to my digital voltmeter. I connected the pigtail to a little piece of perforated board (the kind experimenters use for prototyping). I then soldered bannana plugs directly to this board. The board and all plugged into my voltmeter. The type of perforated board I used had one side clad with copper. I simply used an exacto knife to cut a patch between the two connectors so that they were electrically isolated. I then just soldered a resistor across the gap. All I had to do was plug in my battery. The resistor made a load and the voltmeter displayed the loaded voltage.

I used that for a long time before one of the wires broke and I never felt like fixing it.

The target field is a open field on 183 north, near 620.
Behind the Chase bank(edited) building. next to the old target!

Well come on now, might as well bring the heli, you know, just in case!

Received my new painted fins last night. Put them on as well as a set of flourscent yellow landing gear. BRIGHT! Maybe my old, blind azz can see the darn thing now!

See now this is where a nice little electric heli comes in real handy. Just throw it in the car with a couple of packs and your Tx and if you get the opportunity, you can fly. No need to carry all that support junk along.
