Bergen R/C Helicopters > Hatori coming apart

The Hatori I bought while waiting for the 'Unobtainium' Bergen muffler is not coming apart from the inside. Heard it rattling today and post flight took it off and looked inside. Small pipe, too big to put out of pipe is now loose. I wonder if these aluminum mufflers just can't stand up to the heat of the gas motors? Might have to go back to the stock muffler that came with the engine. At least that one stays in one piece, though a bit loud.

Flap, I have been waiting about two years for the elusive muffler, I bought the century V-1 just before the V-2 came out. With a little work, it has not come off unless I take it off. So far the chrome is still holding.

RJ,
Do you have a photo of how it fits? Does it fit under the fiberglass canopy? I would take a little bad chrome any day if the muffler would stay on without getting loose every other flight.

Flap, it is a one piece muffler with an extension piece(header) I don't know the proper term, that holds it away from the engine. I ground it at an angle so that it would sit with the front end closer to the engine and the rear end pushed away from the engine. I then ground the cheek on the fiberglass canopy a little so it does not touch. The canopy does get discolored from the heat, so I then put some heat reflective tape on the inside of the cheek.
I can't upload a photo to my gallery till Mon. I do have some pictures in my gallery, don't remember if I had the stock muffler on or not.

Sweet paint on that canopy, Rick. Stock muffler, though.

I'd like to get one of those 'Unobtainium' units too. Maybe as a kit that I can weld up myself? Chris?
