I haven't even seen one yet so I can't comment on it.
Keep it rich and run it at a lower speed like around 7.8:1 gearing or so.

Gear Ratio

Why are u sayin to run a 7:8:1 ratio?? i was told to run an 8:8:1 ratio. what would be the reasons for this low ratio, what would be the reasons to run a 8:8:1 ratio??

I'm sorry I'm late to reply on this post but I had to put my 2 cents in.

We've been trying the TT engines for the past 5 months and so far I echo most of the replies on this thread. It's either you get an insanely great or frustratingly bad engine.

So far on our field, it's still 50-50. We got 2 TT engines running perfectly out of the box, and 2 we wish to chuck into the trash. It didn't matter if it was the 36, 50, or 70... the only time we got it to work well was constant tuning (usually different every flying day) which we don't recommend for new flyers. It's hard enough to learn to hover without aggravating it them to be expert engine tuners. Webra ain't off the hook too. Only the OS and YS brands seem to offer better quality across all we have come across, no lemons so far.

I can only recommend TT engines for those flyers with experience and can tell a well tuned engine from a bad one.

Dave_D,
Your true calling should be "preacher". Everything you just said is the gospel truth! The grief I had with my TT36 was frightening Ill never own another 1 ever because of that experience. Id much rather pay a small amount more so my hobby does what I got involved in it for in the first place ( fun times), not GRIEF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Isnt this the reason we all got involved in helis in the first place? If raw power is ones only eng concern when buying a mill then going 60size is the best answer anyway, you dont see anybody winning the world champs on a 30 sized mill right? I have several OS engines that have so much time on em I dont even remember how much glo they have even seen and they still all run like NIB after 6yrs, even my lowly F ringed mill.My.02

tt engines

My First Raptor had a TT engine, the LHS kept insisting nothing was wrong with it. I was told that TT had solved the engine problem a long time ago.. So I spent the first month starting and adjusting, and starting and adjusting, and starting and adjusting the TT engine. I finally went back to the same LHS and bought a OS32Heli, bolted in on and started up and flew my heli.. Amazing.
Have now flown several gallons of fuel with no problems.
Sent the TT engine back to Thunder Tiger, have not heard from them and don't really care.
I Now have two raptors both with OS32Heli engine, they run great.. One of my buddies still has a TT engine, so most of the time him flies my spare heli,,

ThunderTiger may make a good engine, but I have never seen one.

Now do you want to know about the Hytec digital servo's that fail, and fail, and fail.

TT 36

I had TT 36 that came with a new raptor kit. The crankshaft had .008" runout, wow!

I called Ace, they were nice enough to send me another crank, but it had .005" runout, which they said was within tolerance????????

How in the hell does this ISO 9001??? quality control rating work exactly :+)

The vibes from that kind of runout will definately break your clutch, ruin your bearings ,etc ,etc.

My buddy has a TT 36 that ran pretty good, that is when the low speed needle would stay in the carb and not back up and fall out while flying:+)

You decide,

Raj

heliman,

Thanks for the kind words, I guess I really take to heart this "politically correct" way of thinking. My last diatribe here on the Ultimate Guide (http://runryder.com/showtopic.htm?s=&topicid=5345) got some pretty good replies, both in this forum and in private e-mails. Maybe I should contribute some articles. I like to write, but I loath coding a website.

As for being preacher.... lemme have a whirl...

I'll make a new post called the 10 Commandments for R/C heli. I'll post my best preachy advice, and let's see where we wind up to keep this topic on course.
