You do want to let the engine warm up before going upside down with it.
One way to check your high speed needle is to do a hard, fast climbout then stop it quick and hover. Listen to the engine at the top of the climbout, if it hesitates, then catches, lean the high needle ever so slightly, then try again. Thi is only after letting it warm up for a minute or two.
