Crashed? Discussion and Photos > Optic 6 warning ...

Intermittent radio glitches had been bothering my Raptor with the OPTIC6 radio for a while. Checked everything, could not isolate any mechanical source for the sudden mid-flight twitching. Then it happened just as the heli was taking off, suddenly pitched backwards at a few inches off the ground, tail rotor hit, boom strike, trashed boom, blades, flybar, etc.

A few days later my electric ECO heli started the exact same twitching, for the first time in 30 flights.

The only common component between the two was the transmitter, an Optic 6. Went to hitecrcd.com to read up about this unit, and found lots of similar glitching experiences in the forum.

Needless to say, lost all confidence in this radio, and Hitec. How can I in good conscience sell this transmitter, even if Hitec services it? They obviously supplied it in defective condition in the first place.

I'd like to think that not all Optic 6s have this problem, but I'm not about to risk a $1,000 heli finding out which ones are good, and which are not.

In the trash it goes.

I'm sure Hitec has fixed this problem by now, so my warning is drected at those looking at buying a used Optic.

Optic 6

I had the same problem with mine and it is now consigned to Simm use only. I spent hours and eventually recruited the services of a Pro to track down the problem. Cost me money and took up valuable flying time. Replaced reciever, crystals, batteries before the problem was found

I've been flying and evo 50/swift 16/ and plankers with an optic 6 and never had a glitch. can't say the same for some of the spektrum folks....reboots

Heli's don't fly, they beat the air into submission!!

I had a similar experience.

My is relegated to sim duty (occasionally, it fails for that).

Utter garbage, unfortunately (at least mine is).
