Thats a very good mod you got there - nice work !

where did you get the carbon servo mount, and what does it attach to in the frames ?

I made the servo mount from 6 layers of CF cloth, unidirectional & 2x2. The "wet lay up" is pressed together between some angle aluminum. The resin is an aerospace epoxy that cures at room temp but has to be post cured with heat to reach the final mechanical properties. Hobby grade epoxies begin to soften at about 120 deg.

I use a Dremel diamond saw to rough out the part from the CF angle and a sander to clean it up from there.

It attaches to the frame with a flexible adhesive (Goop) and 3mm countersunk bolts.

Here's another pic (from a Sceadu):

I3DM,

Thanks!

After losing an 8700G & 9254 due to oil contamination, you could say I was motivated to find a solution. The 9254 failed in flight... I was in a slow left piro while doing a climbout to an auto. It was half way down until I realized I was still in a slow left piro.

Andy, there is one area of concern though, and that is that the bellcrank bolt goes into the plastic mount alone i believe ? how are you keeping it from pulling out ? a bit of CA on the threads ?

Yeah, it's a 2.6mm bolt into plastic... not good. I cut threads using a tap and used JB Weld on the bolt. I check that frequently, so far so good.

I'm going to update that part using a 3mm bolt, collars & bearings from a Sceadu washout arm.

The octagonal tail boom makes it difficult to get the right angle and bolt location. The brackets from the EX servo mount didn't work out. Hirobo has an EX vertical fin mount... I may give that a try.
