Nope....
Just a ground based FF.

Most of the pilots I know that are fire fighting are doing so under contract with the National Forest Service or CDF or....well you get the idea.

how's your flight training coming along

Welp, up until last Wednesday, I didn't have any money for flying. I scrounged up another few thousand so I'm good for another 15 hours or so.. Flew today for a little bit, mostly to keep sharp as the guy doing CFI instruction has been extremely busy of late and I hadn't flown in a couple weeks.

I've also been buried at work as this is our busy time of the year and it will continue to be until early October.

It's coming, just a little more slowly than I'd hoped.

are you using the Schweizer Jeppesen Helicopter Private & Commercial books. They are really great.

I used the Jeppesen books, the ASA test Prep and took a lot of practice tests online at ipilot.com and mywrittenexam.com. I prefer the stuff at ipilot 'cuz you can take tests based on a specific subject matter (systems, aerodynamics etc..) or take a real practice test. mywrittenexam only does practice tests so you may not see every question in the test bank.

I also made up a HUGE pile of flash cards and had my kids quiz me as I drove them to and from school. I think my oldest actually learned quite a bit as we did this. She wants me to teach her to fly when she's old enough and flies with me all the time. She's become pretty good at working the radios.

Mav, if you need help, lemme know. I'd be glad to assist you in your studies...

My Dad tryed to talk me into learning to fly the planks and swiching over to helis that way i'd have two licenses'but I kinda like da helis, just don't tell my Dad that

Ive always whanted to fly in a Extra or go dogfighting in planes

Honeslty, if you get your fixed wing private first, the helicopter becomes an add-on and will be a little less expensive because some of the airplane time will count towards the helo requirements.

I musta been stupid 'cuz I started with airplanes, quit for lack of money (the 3rd kid will do that to ya!) then took up helos a couple years ago.

I think I'm going to get my airplane add-n this summer as the helicopter isn't practical for going anywhere with any significant payload (i.e. the wife and kids)

No, but it sure is fun!

Helicopters are way more fun than planes! I'm up here in the mountains & there isn't anything as much fun as pinnicle landings & going fishing where only the most crazed hikers would dare go.

I agree.. I've landed and pee'd in some places you couldn't get to without being in a helicopter.

The empty weight is 1100lbs and if you have both standard and aux tank that is 64 gallons of fuel which comes in at 384lbs so 1484 would empty weight with two tanks.

Mavrick, good luck with your training - there is no other experience like it in my opinion,

I received my private and then commercial license about 10yrs. ago - greatest thing I every did. Take your time and try to go regularly and you will be fine,

It just hurts the wallet,

Jeff
