My first helicopter was A JR Voyager. It has the stock motor and a seven cell battery. Due to short run times and poor performance I flew it 5 times then put it away and moved on to other helicopters.

I always thought I had wasted my money on it, but after two years I was looking at it again today. I was thinking about upgrading it to a brushless motor and Lipo cells. In your opinion would I be throwing good money after bad, if I invested in this upgrade or do you think i would be better off buying a Swift or Logo.

I know the feeling. I bought mine and wasn't happy with it's stock performance either. I just put the Astro 020 in it with a 4400mah lipo and (along with my previous QJ15 head) and it is much nicer to fly. Im getting about 10 min (conservatively) on a 68 dollar pack.

It's not a power house but it sure is fun to fly now.

I am in the process of building my swift and I can tell you right now that there will be no comparison, but a swift build up is quite a bit pricier than upgrading your VE. A full blown swift will probably run you between 1200-1500. It's funny, the VE looks small next to my swift too!

For me it's a personal thing.. I had to make the VE fly well. And it does! I am finally happy with it.

Tuff call on that, I would say a Swift and Logo are in a different league then the Voyager E.

The cost for Lipos and BL motor and BL ESC, are more then the cost for the VE Lipo and motors.

I think the Voyager is a good helicopter with a few upgrades and the two that MUST be done are BL and Lipo.

this will give new life to your Voyager, after you have upgraded it, it will fly very well, and allot longer, and you can use Both NiMh and Lipo, I prefer lipos.

I can fly either 3S or 4S and it makes the VE a blast fly when going 4S lipo! the power is over the top!

Most poeple have opted for the Hacker BL motor B40-8L or C40-8L. 15T to 16T pinion.

There is also a Stretch mod, that can allow the VE to run longer main blades.

And another mod is to convert the tail to a Raptor 30 tail, this is cheaper to repair and also more robust in design.

Carbon frames can save some weight and so can using HS-81 servos.

All in all the VE is not dead, they are still flying and places still carry after market parts!

the choice is yours.

-= I know there is Money in RC helicopters. I put it there=-

I,ve both, the benefit of the VE is only a 3S pack needed to fly it great, + no ubec or rx pack needed.worse part is parts are dear.
The Swift to fly good, really needs a 5 or 6S bat.Parts are much cheaper.
Both fly,if setup right,ok and quite similar, both are good electic helis
price of helis will always be similar as everybody has found out, flying helis aint'cheap!!

Hoverdown3K, when you say 4S - what motor you think of ? I have JR original BL kit from JR (suppose it's Hacker B40, but I don't know L or S and how many turns ?!), and also using the same B40 cooler than you, but running shortly 4S, the motor/cooler/even the frame gets extremely hot, even bit smelly ... of course the feeling is fantastic, but I am afraid to melt it down !
